last time, he'd had to rescue a couple of griffins off suarez's ship, just because he didn't know griffins needed to drink sweetened milk instead of water, and the time before that, a ghoul had been kidnapped and the stupid people thought ghouls were able to go in sunlight. pete vowed to never work with the used again.

the worst thing that could happen is that someone's already gotten to them. saporta said they'd sighted unicorns on vampire, which might've been weird back in ninety-two, but it's the forty-first century, and seeing princesses living on the sub-planets of Barrington and Clairmont and attending the public schools is about as weird as seeing unicorns in places as dark as vampire.

A unicorn would get pete a shit ton of cash that he can use to upgrade his ship with, so he kidnaps mikey the unicorn and brings him back to Decaydance. While on the trip over to the planet (idk a planet just for trading goods) they get to know eachother and pete starts to think that maybe selling mikey would be a bad idea because he might possibly be falling for the unicorn with the fucking cute glasses but no one can know that because that will completely ruin his hardcore image.

well-known as one of the worst solar systems in the universe, the academy had many planets in close orbits, some even sharing. friday shared an orbit with sixteen other planets and was the fourteenth to be discovered. saybr bay was the main trading lane, with lights down the runway visible from outside the atmosphere and buildings dedicated to different things on each side.

before beckett bought friday, the academy was busted a few times, back in the beginning when ex-mythicals were discovered communicating through the asher radiowaves in the milky way galaxy. the asher's, being used to everyone understanding that they owned the communication systems in the entire milky way, were extremely concerned, because someone was smart enough to hack their security codes and use their radiowaves. the academy, as soon as they got their hands on the sirens, were caught, mainly by the extensive amount of traffic to the worst solar system in the min-3xx259 star cluster.

the second time the academy was caught in the illegal trades was when planet exo-3xx259-3e (known in casual conversation as planet reckless) decided to transport some heavy minerals from another min-3xx259 solar system. the traders got caught leaving before the scheduled time by half an hour to avoid ship examination, and were taken into custody by the planet authorities.

somehow, beckett has prevented the opites (the organisation of the prevention of illegal trades in the entirety of space) arresting him, even though only about 20% of his tradings were legal in the eyes of the law. in the odd. galaxy, everyone assumed it was the ghoul wentz rescued from the used and left on friday that meant beckett got away with what he did.

the ghoul, iero, was beckett's second in command and the one who did the investigations into people who tried to buy beckett's planets or his staff off him. the investigations were more like hunts for blackmail material, but the beckett house guards didn't care at all, and many were often seen taunting the people at the elaborate gates, using the blackmail iero dug up while the light glinted off the beckett seal in the middle of the gates as a reminder of what they would never have.

since pisces was a small galaxy of only around 750 functional planets and two million stars, everyone owned their own radiowaves by rights.

beckett owned the academy's waves and friday handled all communications going to and from all the planets in the solar system.

pete continued pressing the hologram disk button, but nothing happened.

"could i help?" pete turned around and saw mikey standing in the doorframe, skin glittering more than usual in the dull lighting. pete nearly fell over.

"i don't know, can you fix the academy's communication?" pete turned around, but he could feel mikey's eyes burning into his back.

"should i tell patrick?" pete turned again, this time noticing the two michael's standing behind mikey. mike was frowning, looking much more understanding than michael, who looked around with wide eyes.

pete had a strict rule of no kids in the communications room.

"yeah, he needs to know."

pete turned around again, pressing on the button.

and once again, nothing happened.

dinner on the decaydance was strange. no one was holding loud conversation and gerard was frowning.

gerard never frowned, pete had noticed, even in his bad moods. he just gave everyone noticeably fake smiles and went on with his day.

"i'm sure they're fine," everyone visibly stiffened when pete spoke, but he ignored it, continuing;  "maybe they just don't have anyone in their communications room." it was a lie. they had over five alexes (including the alexes) working there in alternate shifts. alex suarez, while on breaks from running his ship, also tended to work there part time, because it's 'a more reliable source of money than illegal trades'.

beckett always payed his staff well.

everyone seemed to accept pete's reasoning, even though none of them believed it.

"hey 'trick," pete balanced a bowl of hot vegetable and noodle soup and a cup of purple chamomile tea on a fake silver tray expertly, walking steadily over to patrick and putting the tray on the small space especially installed for the pilot's meals.

"hello pete, thanks," patrick grabbed the tea first, drinking half and setting it back down again.

pete watched patrick fiddle with a few switches and press a few buttons, before sitting back and sighing.

after a quick glance outside at all the galaxies and star clusters speeding past outside, pete headed back to the communications room.

pete was out of bed within seconds, pulling on the fanciest clothes he could find.
