There are endless paths you can take with a nursing degree. Someone could become an ER nurse, work in the ICU, or take care of kids on the pedes floor. This is unique in health care because if you are going into a certain field of medicine as a doctor you specialize in the field. Nurses one the other hand can take additional certifications if they would like to, but the schooling is typically the same.

Nurses and other health care workers use "SOAP" notes to document patient interactions. SOAP stands for: Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan. These notes help hold a record of what is happening with the patient and allow their nurses to care for them.

The American Nurses Association is a hub to support nurses and sparks communication. The ANA help nurses gain certifications, has development functions, and most importantly supports nurses. Joining the ANA connects nurses and helps them feel cared about in a job where all they do is care for others.

What I love about Nursing

I love Nursing because I have always put others in front of my own needs and have taken care of them. When I was younger I spent a lot of time with my grandmother who suffered from heart failure and cancer. I always tried my best to take care of her and I was attached to her hip. I took pride in helping her and even took notes on what medications she needed and what illnesses she had on my phone when her nurses would come to help her so that I could be like them. Overall I just love the idea of being able to care for people and hopefully make a difference in their life.

A hot topic going on with nurses night now is burnout. Now more than ever nurses have been quitting their jobs due to burnout. Nursing not only takes a physical toll on ones body more a huge mental toll as your work affects someone's entire life. Having the pressure on you to save a life is really difficult to deal with causing lots of nurses to become burnt out.
