Example: An ethical issue I found impeded on Sam's dignity and worth of person, since Loretta, the Social Worker immediately judged Sam by his disabilities. Instead, of using person centered planning to find out how Sam would want help within his environment to keep his daughter.

In other words, person-centered planning helps to provide flexibility and choice for present and future needs through resources, training and support (Mahoney, 2011).

Annie: The neighbor/ Lucy's Godmother would watch Lucy while Sam worked. Annie also helped teach him parenting skills: feeding and sleep schedule, etc.
Robert, Ifty and Joe: Sam's best friends would come over to go out to eat and shopping with Sam and Lucy. They also attended all of Lucy's birthday's and sports events.
Rita: The Lawyer helped properly dress Sam for court. She also helped him find a new job and encouraged him to keep fighting for Lucy.
Randy: Lucy's foster mom stepped back and decided to coparent with Sam. So, she began to play the mother role Lucy was missing by attending her soccer games, etc.

The Social Model argues that people are not disabled by their impairments, but by the barriers they face within society (Levitt, 2017).

Example: Lucy's friends, the judge and social worker openly devalued Sam's ability to be a dad. It was clear they believed in the medical model and defined Sam by his impairments.
