People in the Asian community hold diverse views toward medicine, with their beliefs primarily rooted in Asian culture. In Asian culture they primarily believe in at home prevention. This could simply be consuming foods and drinks that are heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. Asians frequently turn to friends and relatives for advice or study home medical manuals that include a list of home remedies in order to discover further therapeutic treatments, such as tonics, herbs, and dietary modifications.

Coining and Pinching: Coining is a technique where a hot metal coin is dipped in oil and rubbed over the skin until welts form. Another way to get these welts is to pinch the skin between your thumb and index finger. These treatments are intended to pull out fever and sickness. The skin is covered in long, consistent dark bruises as a result of this operation.

Acupuncture: Acupunctures goal is to balance out yang excess and bring yin and yang back into harmony. Needles are applied to particular meridian sites in this procedure.

Cupping: Cupping is a therapy used is Asian culture to provide a deep-tissue massage for pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and overall well-being. heat-producing suction applied to the forehead or abdomen using tiny tubes or heated cups.

Treatment disparities continue to exist for Asian Americans and for this reason, it is vital to create effective treatments. Many approaches include reviewing mental health and implementing Asian culture into an individual's care plan. When looking closely at Asian philosophies, interventions applicable to providing care include (Hall et al, 2011):

-Mindfulness

-Acceptance-based psychotherapies

-Contextual therapies

It is clear that many non-Western cultures don't get the care needed when relating to their culture; therefore, a psychotherapy approach needs to be implemented when caring for the Asian culture (Hall et al, 2011).

One nursing consideration to take into account in Asia is their culture. When providing care, there are a few things that nurses should be aware of. Some specific things to avoid include:

-Direct Eye Contact

-Conflict Avoidance

-Soft Voice Tone

-Males Make Most Decisions

-Feet Considered Dirty

-Hot-Cold Theory of Illness

-Soups and Rice after Birth

It is important to be cautious around their culture because providing care and implementing their traditions can help improve an individual's overall health.

Among the Asian population there are a multitude of different religions that are practiced. These include....

-Christians

-Buddhists

-Hindus

-Muslims

-Confucianism

-Daoism

Among Asian Americans, Christianity continues to be the most common religion. As a nurse it is important to never assume a persons religion and to follow Leininger's Culture Theory. To provide the best possible care for your patient the nurse should incorporate the patients religious and cultural practices into their plan of care. The nurse should always respect and honor the patient's wishes even if it is against their own beliefs.

Asians have many common values and beliefs that are unique to their culture. One of Asian's core values is marriage and family. Divorce rates are drastically lower in Asian cultures compared to America. Asians highlight the importance of success in life, whether that is in school, career, or even family. Asians also find it important that the government establishes a wholesome environment when raising their kids. Unlike the West, Asians believe that it is significant to be a part of a huge family/community. This means that not only do their actions represent themselves, but everyone else. Overall, it is clear that Asians have distinct values and beliefs that differ from the West.
