- Before the revolution took place, Western missionaries in Shandong solely protected local converts to Christianity.
- The anger of the Chinese population only grew when the region experienced droughts, floods, and economic strife.
- Although there is no specific inspiration, their frustration with Imperialism and the Western missionaries control over their life was enough motivation/inspiration for the Boxers to began a civil uprising.
- The revolutions took place at this time because the events leading up to this time, such as the Opium Wars and the Sino-Japanese Wars lead to a cry for action.

- This rebellion/revolution changed society in the China because it was a widespread movement that influenced those whom they targeted by burning Christian homes and churches along with killing Chinese Christians. It also affected the Boxers, those leading the rebellion, because it allowed them to work for change and also changed their day to day life.
- The Boxer Rebellion changed the future of country because this rebellion weakened the Qing Dynasty, which meant that when an uprising began in 1911, the dynasty came to an end and China became a republic in 1912.
- The legacy of this rebellion is the Boxers being willing to stand up for what they believed in.
*Even though they participated in some questionable events, namely killing Christians, they still left a legacy for their family of standing up for what they believe in and retaliating against oppression.

- One key event is the event that kicked this revolution off.
* This event is the killing of two priests by two Boxer members visiting a German missionary in Juye County, China in 1899.
- This people were called the Boxers because of their practices in the Marshal Arts.
- Another important event is on June 20th 1900 when the boxers began a siege of Beijing's foreign legion district.
- Another important event occurred on August 14th when an international force of around 20,000 troops from eight nations arrived to take Beijing and rescue the foreigners and Chinese Christians.
*This was arranged by Western powers and Japan in hopes to crush the rebellion.
