A potential solution is to create a policy that intentionally names recruitment and retention efforts to bring more Black and brown educators to the work force.

There also needs to be funding to support this policy effort.

In NC, the Leandro Plan is our best stab at an initial solution. NCGA continues to defy multiple court rulings that would require the state to increase equitable funding.

Additionally, we need more solidarity around how a strong public education system benefits everyone.

And, my biggest dream for NC public schools is educators receiving the training and support they need to better meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population. Dedication to meeting the needs of our students must be centered.

Superintendent Green, thanks to you and your staff for your focus on students with disabilities during the NCGA joint ed meetings this week, particularly on suspensions/expulsions. To Sarah’s point regarding vouchers, public schools generally do better at supporting students with disabilities than charter schools

My “big idea” is adequate behavioral supports for all schools. Behavior = communication. It would also be good to have our EC policies in regulation, so they are more formalized, in the event that we lose some federal protections/enforcement
