During the narrative, there was an instance where one of Nat Turner's letters was found and was shown to be from one of her friends. They then start to question her if she knows how to read, and she does. After this, the troops get angry and begin to ask for the other letters, but she doesn't say a word. After a while, she then tells that she gets mailed multiple letters, mostly from white people(abolitionist), and some telling her to burn the messages after reading to hide the evidence. And some she would burn without reading to hide the evidence.

They use a quote from the bible because in the south, christianity was and is a big thing. And they used this quote specifically because it referencing how we are all humans, and how we are all related to each other, and how we should treat each others like our brother/sister.

These two sentence from the narrative, "If any of the husbands or fathers told of these outrages, they were tied up to the public whipping post, and cruelly scourged for telling lies about white men." and "No two people that had the slightest tinge of color in their faces dared to be seen talking together." really stuck out to me by how harsh they were treated for doing such a simple thing. Just by having any hint of color in your skin could end you up in excruciating pain just by talking to someone with the slightest hint of color in their skin. Just because they assume you're talking bad about them.
