The young are born well developed, having spent a period of time getting nutrition from the placenta inside the mother.<br><br>Marsupials give birth to poorly developed young. After birth, the baby continues to develop and grow in a special pouch on its mother, where it feeds milk.<br><br>Monotremes are a small group of egg-laying mammals with similarities to reptiles and birds.
