Its position just outside the city made it a popular venue for entertainment. The people that were part of the city did not like having theatre districts in the City of London as it made it look rowdy, so putting on shows outside of the city walls kept everyone happy, although it  did get Shoreditch a reputation of being disorderly.

It is Hackney's major employment area, providing over 40,000 jobs in over 4,000 businesses and has played a key part in the prosperity of the borough.
The area has over 150 cultural venues and an expanding hospitality sector.
The council wants to protect and sustain Shoreditch's unique charecter and is currently developing an Area Action Plan namely, Future Shoreditch which will describe a vision for Shoreditch in 2034. In essence, Boxpark is a food and retail park made out of refitted shipping containers. Shoreditch due to its artsy environment had the honour to have the first Boxpark which opened in 2011. 
The Boxpark was and still is as success attracting tourists and young people everyday with its food stalls and events. The musem showcases the lives of Birtish people and each room gives a snapshot of living room life in a specific period. Soon, the museum will be embarking on a transformational £18m development project, Unlocking the Geffrye.
