IT all depends on who you hear it from. To behaviorists, happiness is a cocktail of emotions we experience when we do something good or positive. To neurologists, happiness is the experience of a flood of hormones released in the brain as a reward for behavior that prolongs survival.

There are two types of Happiness: Hedonia and eudaimonia. Hedonia is what most people perceive happiness to be, the absence of pain and misery. People try to maximize their happiness which minimizes misery. Eudaimonia is happiness that comes from trying to become a better person. This kind of contentment is rooted in people trying to become better people and try to become more spiritually-rich.

A common saying is, "Money Can't buy happiness". But that isn't necessarily the case. Money is what enables people to experience things that they haven't been able to do before. Spending money to go visit relatives, spending money to go out with friends, and spending money on things for yourself. So although money itself might not bring happiness, but it opens the gate for experiences.

Abigail Williams has done some terrible deeds to the people of Salem. Abigail's compassion for John Proctor made her simple-minded for only his love. She did not care about the means and casualties it meant to attain it. But as a result, John Proctor stayed faithful to his wife and moral standings instead of lying because he could not live with himself if he lied. Happiness doesn't always benefit you, but doing the right thing will make you content.
