In this dissemination the goal is to show the quality of development and progression of this professional project. This project is a journey in self-development and understanding the required skills as session musician. I have chosen the route of a thirty-minute live performance as my final project; the music and style for the live performance chosen of mid-western emo. Mid-western emo is commonly known as the second wave of emo music in which it is also known as Midwest-emo (Carson Thurman 2019). Midwest-emo consists of unique vocals inspired by the indie genre and traditional punk and hard rock, it has elements of low budget and DIY to the music and structure which appeals to me as a drummer. (Isabella Mason 2021). The goal is to replicate the style of Midwest-emo and develop my understanding of improvisation, rearrange the elements of my chosen setlist and play to the best of my ability whilst doing so.

I have gathered a few videos that I have posted onto Facebook and TikTok the platform I know will get the most reach from the people who enjoy this genre, from videos to our practices and even from our live gig which highlights and strengthens my point that young people love Midwest-emo music. My goal for these videos was to hopefully show my progression from the rehearsal rooms to a live setting, which I believe has been successful.

For my solo rehearsals, there have been setbacks and limitations, such as my body posture when playing the drums, I noticed becoming increasingly fatigued with my playing as I did not consider my posture or how I sit on the throne. I would always slouch unvoluntary and ‘power’ through which has been limiting my ability, my supervisor advised that I sit straight with my chest out which aligns my spine and makes it more comfortable as well as boosting my stamina. There have been studies that breathing correctly and staying relaxed during practice can also boost your stamina which is unfamiliar territory for me, as explained in an article that breathing techniques are just as important as it for a singer (Nick D’virgilo, 2018).
