-Allow opportunities for students to see us out of 100%-teacher-mode. During down time, as a leader in extra-curriculars, etc.
- Collect a variety of writings from students that allow them to share personal tidbits.
- Tell them you're interested in who they are and what they are up to, the follow up by showing them that you're actually interested. Take notes if you have to. Attend their events. Talk to them every day.
- I like to keep my personal life private with my students but I do share funny things that happen. Lots of stories about critters or awkwardness that I've accidentally created (no surprise there).
- Make time for community building in the classroom.

Some info is housekeeping stuff, some is to learn interests/learning styles/ tech knowledge, I also want to know their likes/dislikes from the beginning to avoid conflict when possible, and the last part is some fun/quirky stuff. I've done something similar to this every year = this year adding tech!
*I try to learn as much as possible about each student & interact with them as often as possible
*I share info about myself to encourage them to share

This helps us make connections with each other and the students feel more comfortable with me.

I spend my lunch in my room with students just letting them be themselves (within reason) and have a place to go when they need a break.

I make it a point to attend at least one event each year that students are participating in and tell individual students about how great they did!

I keep my energy up as much as possible and TOTALLY do cheers in the classroom. I on occasion make up songs too.

I implemented "Super Fan" awards to award students who are being active at events and showing great school spirit.

I listen.
