There response encourages them to challenge themselves as they would do harder work each time if they found it too easy and do a level up.

The children seemed very self-aware, they spoke about how they don't copy eachother's work because otherwise they will not learn or have access to help from the teacher and it won't move them forward in their learning.

I appreciated the fact that it was child-centred and put the focus on the children to take responsibility but to have that humility modeled by the teacher. The children illustrated how they have a growth mindset- and the teacher spoke about not putting limits on children's learning or holding a fixed mindset.

The school promoted a culture of trust- shows the children that their classroom is a safe place to learn, make mistakes and grow as individual learners.
The children were choosing their own level of difficulty and challenging themselves without limits. The benefit of this is the children are confident and engaged, they are eager to learn and are happy to help their peers. Learning behaviours such as relationships with others and relationships with the curriculum were shown in the video.

The children were really confident with their own ability. I liked how they said they don't choose the same as their friends but also, they help each other if someone is struggling but don't give each other the answers. This is like peer teaching and it's a way of motivating each other. The way the teacher trusts them to choose gives them a sense of responsibility swell so that they are taking ownership for their own learning.

The children had really good levels of self-esteem, they were confident in themselves that they could choose whichever challenge they would like and they know what to do if it's too easy/too difficult. The teacher established trust with them early on as they clearly trusted him back and this reflected on the way they were treating the challenges (not copying friends, not choosing easiest challenge when not needed). Children were taught that it isn't necessarily 'normal' to get every question right all the time and that did wonders for their self-esteem/confidence as the only expectation was for them to try their best.

By giving the children the choice of which maths questions they should answer, it allowed them to develop their confidence. The children did not feel judged for choosing the question that suited their ability and felt confident enough to ask for help. This would build on their self-esteem.

I really found this inspiring. The fact that the children are so tuned in to pick the correct task for them is fantastic. I like that they knew not to pick based on their friends choices and knew that cheating would ultimately impact their learning. It seems that the teachers have helped to create a safe environment for these children and a culture that it's ok not to know the answer all the time.

I liked that it was differentiated right down to the methods and it was good that the children themselves were able to choose the method that worked best for them! They discussed how they all knew the different abilities of the worksheets, but they used each other for help and to inspire each other. It was nice to see how independent and collaborative learning behaviours were simultaneously encouraged, and that they all felt happy to challenge themselves, ask for help and to get things wrong! You could see all of the children had growth mindsets, and the teacher was very keen to model this to the children which, no doubt, helped.

I loved this video. I like how they have thought 2 different methods and the chn are then encouraged to use the one they feel most comfortable with rather than being forced to follow a particular method. All the chn seemed really positive about the variation of challenges and wanting to push themselves. The whole atmosphere seemed really supportive and positive.

I love the safe environment that allows pupils to reflect on their learning and how aware they were of their strengths and areas of improvement. Pupils were not ashamed of their level of attainment and were secure enough to take ownership of challenging themselves. Promoting growth mindset- pupils are happy and confident to make mistakes as they see it as an opportunity to learn and find the areas they need to work on and that is through the fair support given by the teacher. A lot of them said they felt inspired and their attitude showed that they have so much curiosity and zest for learning which is amazing.

It is really nice to see how enthusiastic the children are for their learning and it is a good example of a positive growth mindset. The school are able to differentiate learning in order to challenge and support the children without the children being set into groups and everyone knowing who is in the bottom group etc.. The children support one another as well and are keen to work hard and be in control of their learning which has developed confidence.

This video is amazing as it really grasps the idea of how the teacher employs a growth mindset from the very first day, and really encourages challenges that involve pupil choice. His teaching and the children's learning is essentially driven by the children themselves. The fact that children are being reflective and recognising how they they best learn is such a big achievement for a teacher to witness along the journey.

Powerful video, illustrating the dynamics of a school culture that gives students ownership of their own learning journey. By providing a safe environment of trust, openness, humility, reflection and empathy and modelling such behaviour the teachers I feel have also explained in practical terms to the children, how to approach their learning. The children clearly understand that the aim is for them to progress in their learning, whilst choosing the method best suited to themselves and challenging themselves at an appropriate level. They understand that they should be supportive of each other, without labelling each other.

Seems like a really positive growth mindset approach is working at this school.

I thought the positive approach of the children towards challenge was very refreshing and they all seemed as though they wanted to help each other. The children emphasising that they choose their own challenges show that they think of themselves as "independent learners" and they felt they were allowed to choose the challenge that suited them on that particular day. The children were also aware of how they should be working with each other e.g. not messing around or going off topic, but helping each other learn and grow.

I thought the video was fantastic as it demonstrated how growth mindsets can be embedded. What I would say is how this also relies on a cultural shift in some schools away from 'setting' and the active encouragement to take risks in the classroom.

What a fabulous set up. The children were really engaged and really pleased to be able to take ownership for their own learning. Their attitude towards independence was refreshing to see as I know sometimes children can be a bit reluctant to push themselves and challenge their learning at times. A great example of growth mindset, too!

I am very inspired by the teacher. He was using Blooms questioning 'Describe' first allowing children to attempt answer the questions. He also offered a range of methods (grid/ column method) which children could then go and pick which method they wanted to use- this making learning accessible and preferred individual methods use by the children. He did not put a limit on learning, instead offered progression. The children seemed to have open mind sets about learning and embraced a challenge. He modelling the behaviour and mindset he expected so that children felt comfortable within their environment.

I love the fact the children know that it is ok to ask for help and can move down a challenge if they struggle. Not be afraid of what their friends are thinking.

I really enjoyed the video. it was nice to see that the children were all supporting each other, with different challenges and understood that there was no judgements on who does what challenge. The children also seemed to like that they had a choice in their challenges and how it would best suit their needs and way of learning. It was also nice to see that the children understood that picking an 'easier' challenge wouldn't stimulate their learning as much. The teacher and other staff were very supportive and it looks like a good system in place. I liked that the teacher said 'How can we expect children to reflect and be honest or ask for help, if we don't as teachers demonstrate that ourselves?'

They have a growth mindset as they believed that you need to try to be able to learn. You also need to keep doing to aid learning.

It was really interesting to see how engaged the children were, and that that enthusiasm came from the teacher. For me, being a role model is such a huge part of being a teacher and seeing this in action was fantastic! The teacher recognised his role and referred to the idea of setting an example.
