However, there are still certain components of the evaluation that require further knowledge or instruction. According to ASCA, school counselors should devote 80% of their time to providing direct and indirect assistance to students, and they should arm them with the information and tools they need to do so.

I was not surprised by the moving percentage stating I strongly and moderately associate males with careers and females with family. I say this because my dad was in the military and was always gone. My mother was a stay-at-home mother because we moved around, so she had to quit her job once my dad got to a new duty station. Once my mother got a job, I was much older and capable of caring for myself. Both parents worked 40-plus hours a week, and we had family time on the weekend when we went to different places. I knew that my score would show I strongly associate females with family and males with a career at a higher percentage. American School Counselor Association (2019) states, " School counselors should acknowledge the vital role of parents/ guardians and families (pp 16)". With that being said role of parenting in each life will be completely different. I was surprised by the moving percentage stating I have a strong automatic preference for European American and slightly prefer African American people. I say this because my Race is African American/ Black. I raised me was raised by a black father and a black mother. So, my score would show I strongly associate with African American versus European Americans. I can see why I can be closely associated with European Americans because I grew up around diversity. My dad was in the military, and we moved around a lot, so I met people of different races. Overall, this IAT test was very interesting and showed me that no matter how I feel internally, how I respond to a test can show I think differently.
