Speech and language helps children to create new ideas, it allows children to reason with other children. It also allows children to talk to other children about their activities, discuss their feelings, improve their memory and brain development and it builds the child's social skills and relationship with others. It also improves the children's attention and listening skills. These skills are important to have when being in a school environment. When children are communicating with other children this allows children to become more creative and learn new things. Therefore, this helps with the child's brain development.

How does physical development affect all the other areas of development?

Physical development encourages independence in children, it not only improves their health and self care, but allows children to control and strengthen their physical skills. When children unlock the ability to do things by themselves they are able to feed themselves and dress themselves. It effects their social development as some activities include group activation which allows the child to practice their social skills as their interacting and working together with other children. As well as encouraging social skills, physical development helps improve a child's fine motor skills. Finally physical development allows children to concentrate better and supports the improvement of brain development.

How you could use sand and water activity for Speech and Language Development:

As an early years practitioner to help children with their speech and language development you must ask them questions for example what does the sand feel like? The child would then tell you how the sand feels and what colour it is etc. When the child describes the sand they could be using words such as crunchy and rough, this will tell us how they are progressing with their development. If a child does not know any words to describe it you ask them some questions about how it feels for example, does it feel hard or crunchy? As an early years practitioner you can ask the children questions which they can answer which will tell us about their development

Sand activities can be really useful for children's improvement of their reading. For example, you can hide phonics flashcards in the sand as well as hiding magnetic letters, we can also arrange shells in the shape of letters and read them. We can use sticks or our things to write thing in the sand and read them. Water activities can be useful for their reading for having letters floating in the water.
