The melody is heard at one of Gatsby's extravagant parties when Nick, Tom, and Daisy are examining what Gatsby did to increase such riches. Nick considers the likelihood of another young lady appearing at the gathering that Gatsby could begin an interest in and disregard the his enduring affection for Daisy. This song plays as Daisy leaves Gatsby's party early the next morning.

"Gatsby and Daisy danced. I remember being surprised by his his graceful, conservative fox-trot-- I had never seen him dance before" (112).

The jazz age played a vital role in the novel the Great Gatsby. The story happens in the 1920s after World War 1. Jazz conveyed satisfaction to people's lives after the inconvenient and awful encounters from the war. Amid this time period, Jazz was new and so energizing that everybody was tuning in to it. The part of jazz in the Great Gatsby was consolidated into the novel through the celebrating and rejoicing at Gatsby's gatherings, the blasting economy and the engaging jazz music that developed after the war.
