Introduction

In the course of the classes of Unit 2, we discussed the history of English language, along with all the variables of its origin, including the invasions on Great Britain, the authors who created and included words in the english vocabulary such as Shakespeare, the impact of language on society, among others.
The classes made me realize that even studying English for a long time, I didn't know anything about the history of the language, how it was formed, the peoples that influenced it, so Unit 2 was very productive.
The studied texts, although dealing basically with the same subject, managed to show in different ways this process of language development.

The texts

The text "What are the origins of the English Language?" brought a discussion about the divisions of the history of English: Old English (or Anglo-Saxon), Middle English, and Modern English and and their specificities- it was very interesting to start thinking about the development of the language, and how other languages such as Latin and French influenced the development of English.

The seminar from the text "O Inglês" was a mixture of feelings: anxiety and curiosity. The most interesting part of the text, in my opinion, was the examples given by the author of words included and the changes in the vocabulary through each invading people.

The Language Timeline and the Infographic were essential in this unit to organize everything that we had learned with the other authors besides giving more dynamics to class.

The text "the autors who invented languages" is basically about authors who invented languages, the author brings examples like Game of thrones (Dracarys!) and the Lord of the Rings, in addition to, of course, Shakespeare. It was interesting because it presents how the languages of these "pop culture" books were constructed.
