SCAMPER is an acronym for a creative technique: Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Reverse.

Have kids check out Kids Go Global, choose an issue and use the SCAMPER rules to think about new solutions. If they choose Endangered Species, they might consider how to substitute one kind of environment or food to help these animals live. They could discuss combining the endangered species with another animal that might serve as a protector. Perhaps the animal could adapt in ways not currently occurring in order to save itself. As the students go through each of the SCAMPER concepts, they find themselves becoming more creative problem-solvers, which is a skill that crosses all content areas.

On season 5 of NASA Explorers, “Artemis Generation,” you’ll meet the scientists and engineers who are studying Moon rocks, building space tools, working aboard NASA’s International Space Station, and training astronauts in preparation for landing humans on the Moon through NASA’s Artemis missions. 

To support student learning, we have made the following lessons and activities available.

NASA and The University of Texas at Austin Center for Space Research have joined forces to encourage high school students’ interest in STEM careers. The SEES project offers distance learning modules and guided remote work prior to onsite internships at the University of Texas in Austin from July 8-22, 2023. Participants conduct authentic research while working with scientists and engineers in their chosen areas. Housing, meals, and activities will be provided.

The Double-Slit Experiment was first performed in 1801 by Thomas Young to provide support for a wave theory of light. Recreate one of the most important experiments in the history of physics and analyze the wave-particle duality of light with this easy classroom demonstration designed for high school level physics students.
