         <title>The Mystery Box Activity </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Apparatus;<br>6 boxes with unknown items inside. Group discussion sheet. 6 post-its for making best guess.<br>Method;&nbsp;<br>2 minutes per group on each box. Write down all features that can be identified. At the end of the 2 minutes, write down a best guess. Move the box to the next group. When all boxes have been analysed, share learning on the board.&nbsp;<br>What skills did you use?<br>What did you think was in the box?<br>Post you best guess on the board. Where there is agreement, highlight it. Where there is not agreement, use their observation sheet to stimulate debate.<br>Finally, do not open the box, scientist must rely on their observations and hypothesis. Where there is disagreement, research continues..</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>How much sugar do we eat in a day?<br></em><strong>Orientation</strong>: what is sugar?why is it important for our organism? can it be harmful too? Different types of sugar.<br><strong>Conceptualisation</strong>: Estimate how many grams of sugar we usually eat in a day.<br><strong>Investigation</strong>: every student makes its own research based on his/her diet and analyses the composition of everything he/she eats in a day.<br><strong>Conclusion</strong>: We will find out if we really eat more or less sugar that we thought.<br><strong>Discussion</strong>: are we really aware of the quantity of sugar we consume?          <description><![CDATA[<div>1) Orientation: Introducing the solar system through videos, sites and applications.&nbsp;<br>2) Conceptualization: Write in a sticker paper everything you want to know or ask about the solar system. Create a board in the classroom with our students' questions and interests.<br>3) Investigation: Students work in groups. Each group does some research in order to find answers to the previous questions.<br>4) Conclusion: Each team comes to some conclusions. Pupils present the results and the answers of their research to the classroom.&nbsp;<br>5) Discussion: Students talk in the classroom about the results and they check their reliability.</div>]]></description>

They record the astronaut's voice and create a video with images that he could see in his journey. each group of students prepares a podcast on a step of the trip <br><em>Conclusion</em>: Pupils comment classmate's podcast <br><em>Discussion</em>: Pupils actively understand the space around us</div>]]></description>

         <title>Boys and gender stereotyping</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Working in a boys post primary school means gender stereotyping is Rife. We  invited Dr Mae Jamieson into talk to the boys. She was the first female Afro-American astronaut into space. Their first meeting with an astronaut was a female. Yearly we ask our first year students to carry out project work on famous female scientists. <br>I think it is more difficult to work with parents on this as many of them have strong gender bias in their own ideas. I think the message needs to move from the boys to home on this, by providing good female role models in our schools</div>]]></description>
