Receiving this acceptance in 2021 was an incredibly proud moment for me. This collage of photos captures a special cooking class I had the opportunity to run, where participants decorated cupcakes in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This experience was meaningful to me because it combined my passion for baking with the opportunity to teach and share about such an important day. As we decorated cupcakes with orange and cream-coloured icing, I was able to engage participants in conversations about the significance of Truth and Reconciliation Day while also encouraging them to explore their creativity. It was inspiring to see how engaged everyone was in decorating their cupcakes and also reflecting on the meaning of the day. I truly enjoyed facilitating this class, as it blended learning, creativity, and cultural awareness in a way that was accessible and memorable. It reminded me how meaningful it can be to use food as both a teaching tool and a way to bring people together.

Banfi Internship

This document is my final internship agreement for my placement in Italy, which was part of my Baking and Pastry Arts Management program at Humber College. From March to June 2019, I had the opportunity to work as a Pastry and Baking Trainee at Castello Banfi, a hotel and winery located in Montalcino, Italy. This was an amazing and life-changing experience for me, as it allowed me to live in another country which was something I had always dreamed of doing. Beyond developing my culinary skills, this internship gave me exposure to a completely different culture, workplace environment, and way of life. It pushed me outside my comfort zone, strengthened my independence, and helped me grow both personally and professionally. Looking back, I am proud that I took on this challenge and grateful for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to combine my love of baking with the chance to explore the world.

This document is my research paper titled The Archetype: Media’s Portrayal of Black Women, written for a sociology course. At first, I found it difficult to settle on a topic that I felt truly passionate about, but once I chose to explore how media represents Black women through archetypes such as the Jezebel and Sapphire, the paper came to life. Writing this piece gave me the chance to critically examine stereotypes, identity, and the impact of media on marginalized groups. It also helped me grow as a researcher and writer by engaging with a subject that felt both meaningful and relevant. The process was challenging, but ultimately rewarding, as I ended up receiving a strong grade that I was proud of. This paper stands out as one of my favourite academic projects because it reminded me of the value in choosing topics that genuinely inspire me.
