Picky Mrs. Pickle is about a woman who goes her whole life without trying new things. She sticks to the same routine every single day, including the same outfits, same meals, etc. At the end of the book, Mrs. Pickle finally tries a new flavor of ice cream and becomes a happier person from that point on. This book can be used in a classroom to relay the message of trying new things, even if they do not seem comfortable to you at first.

Stephanie’s Ponytail is about a girl that constantly gets her hair style copied by all of the other girls at school. She becomes so bothered by other people copying her style, that she puts a bald cap on one day so that everyone else shaves their heads. When she arrives the next day with a full head of hair, all of her female classmates regret ever copying her. This book can be a perfect way for students to learn how to be independent, and not rely on other people to help express themselves.
