         <description><![CDATA[<p>Turn and Talk is a strategy used in classrooms everywhere. This strategy allows for discussion and collaboration amongst all students. It is beneficial to English learners because they are able to communicate with a small group. This allows them to bond with their partner and lessen the nerves some English learners may have when speaking. A way to scaffold this strategy for newcomers would be having the English learner draw their thoughts and their partner discussing it with them. As they develop language acquisition, they will begin to feel more comfortable speaking. </p>]]></description>

If explicitly taught, children will feel more at ease since they have seen the repetition of gestures used by the teacher in the classroom. It is also important to use frequent hand signals that the students use to check for their understanding. A common signal students can be taught to use is thumbs up (complete understanding), thumbs sideways (partial understanding), thumbs down (no understanding). </p>]]></description>

Students may be more focused on trying to figure out the grammatics of the sentence, instead of focusing on the content they are trying to express in their writing. As a childs teacher it is our jobs to foster safe and loving relationships in our classrooms. Its important for teachers to get to know their students indiviually and learn about their backgrounds. Some English learners may have not had any education prior to your class and you can aid in this transition for this student. Through learning about your students interests and backgrounds you begin to form a connection with that student. For English learners coming to a new school can be a daunting task, but if their classroom is a safe place where children and teachers foster positive relationships then they will feel welcomed. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>It is important for teachers to take into account how their lessons, activities, and assessments meet English learners needs. English learners have varying levels of English proficiency. Teachers need to determine where their English learner is functioning at in order to accommodate them as needed. A well prepared lesson or activity should include reading, writing, listening, and speaking practice for students. These four domains are all interconnected and should be incorporated into lessons for thorough practice. When activites and lessons are preplanned for language development and practice of these four domains, our English language learners are being set up for success.</p>]]></description>
