Diana Briseño is a Feminist and Keynesian economist. Her work focuses on requiring the government to step in when markets are harming people, as well as gender inequality. She is inspired by Stephanie Seguino. In particular, they believe in the economist’s idea that economic institutions lead to economic inequality. Diana Briseño is passionate about holding the government accountable when the economics put in place aren’t beneficial to everyone, in order to promote gender equality, and just equality in general. They study economics because they want to create and promote a more fair and favorable environment all throughout. Her achievements include winning a governors award, as well as being a published author of her own book based on the issues she believes of importance. Diana Briseño is currently a feminist professor of economics at UC Berkeley.

This collage is meant to connect with Dr. King’s statement, “budgets are moral documents.” Budgets are associated with money, that’s why this piece includes that in a few spaces. It also combines the ideas that “budgets are moral documents” since they are a reflection of our values, beliefs - what we believe to be a priority, right and wrong, good or bad.

Kiran Baker works for the International Fund for Agricultural Development as a Director. They are most influenced by the work of William Darity Jr. and Karl Marx, studying economic inequalities based on class and race. They have a masters in Development Economics and International Development, which they use for their job at the IFAD which focuses on rectifying poverty and hunger in developing countries. Their work at the IFAD is important to them due to the fact that their mother grew up in a developing country. They believe that people should own the means of production, and that communities should make economic decisions without involvement from the government.

I believe that the concept of budgets being moral documents refers to the fact that the decisions politicians make on where to allocate money in budgets tends to be based on what will make the most money, what will make it so that they can hit a certain quota for the year. The idea of budgets as moral documents says that there is more to economic decisions than just how much money it will make, there is a moral aspect to it as well. If your motivation for not putting funding towards social welfare programs is because it won’t make you money, that can say a lot about a person’s character and belief system.

My first tweet shows how putting money towards helping rural people both benefits the people and the economy, even if the return does not happen as quickly as you would like.

Justin Moore is a social economist. His work focuses on the idea that things in the world and in communities are built by the hard work of people and citizens. Justin is inspired by Karl Marx, Karl Marx believed that certain things are achieved through fair labor, also believing that the value of something produced can range depending on how much labor someone put into it. Moore is passionate about people working hard and communities being built through hard work and love for the people. Justin believes in people working hard to achieve high goals and working hard through fair labor. Justin studies economics because his beliefs are strong and he wants to put his beliefs into action to help others. Justin’s achievements are writing 2 award winning books about socialism and his beliefs. Justin is currently working for Stanford University as an economics professor.

Here's an excerpt from Justin Moore's manifesto for the Dr. King exhibit:
"To me Economics means decisions that citizens make on a daily basis based on scarcity. Karl Marx is a big influence and inspiration because we have similar beliefs like fair labor and that the value of an economic good can range depending on the labor hours required to produce it. I feel good about the government's contribution and role in the economy, there's so much the government provides for us economically like providing public services and goods, keeping the economy stable. I feel it should be half and half between citizens and the government because the government can keep the flow of production organized and smoothly running while citizens can own their own production."

Her profound interest in economics stems from her belief that the racial wealth gap must be addressed and closed. She aligns her economic values most with socialism, the idea that there are some planned economies. She thinks that the government should take control of the economy to a certain extent when it comes to achieving things like affordable healthcare and other services. She also cares deeply about reparations for African Americans, and equal pay for marginalized groups. She currently collaborates with James Henson at the Young Black Panther Party whose values include African American socialism.

My piece connects with Dr. King’s statement that “budgets are moral documents'' because it reveals what the government values. It goes to show that their refusal to give African American’s reparations is rooted in their character. It’s clear that their character is unjust as they paid slave owners money for exploiting black people but did not admit that the wrongful exploitation of black people put us at a disadvantage of achieving financial stability and affected other problems we face today such as mental health disparities.

They study economics because economics is a huge part of life as we know it and she wants to do her part in making sure that the economy is run how we want it to.. Morals are what we believe to be right or wrong and while throwing our percentages of how I believe California's money should be spent highlights what I think is right or wrong. For example I don't think it would be right to spend 36% on criminal justice given our budget and 9% on K-12 education because I personally believe that we need to spend more money on kids education than fixing our criminal justice system. Although both are problems I think that if we spend more money on K-12 education that could have a streamline effect on helping the criminal justice system because our children will be better educated.

Yaretzi Gomez is a socialist economist who has seen the inequality of distributions of resources in lower income neighborhoods. She is now working, in a local non-profit "East Oakland Collective''. Her work focuses on equally distributing goods and services with somewhat of government intervention for security and funding. Her main focus is to equally distribute the service of education, She believes that wealth and education feed into an intergeneration cycle "Wealth is built in the most practical system the education system. "Her main focus is to explore ways to rebuild a new government system in which goods and services will be distributed equaibally." By anaylzing the different factors that cause this infinite cycle of poverty.

This piece responds to Dr.King's statement that "budgets are moral documents" because in my economist bio I explained how I focused on closing wealth inequalities between races and ethnicities. Within that statement I mentioned how I believe education is one of the best sources for someone who comes from a lower income family to succeed. However due to the current cost of colleges, minority groups are less likely to attend college. I also mentioned how the programs and teacher qualities differ from rich and poor districtions. As an attempt to show that eventhough there is scholarship opportunities not all schools set up their students for the same success. I talked about taxing the rich or defunding the police inorder to increase the funds schools get in particular public schools. The way I want to relocate money and where and who I want to withdraw it from shows my morals and my beliefs. Even Though I am prioritizing one group I know the other group doesn't need the same economic help as the other.

Blake Buckner is an anarchist economist with views often seen as highly controversial. He is very critical of all previously common economic systems due to their continued failures leaving millions of citizens unhappy and suffering. Similar to Marx he believes capitalism will always result in a class divided system with workers being taken advantage of but he also does not believe communism could ever be successful because of it's attraction to dictatorships because of untrustful leadership and government. He believes we should use our technology to move society towards a governmentless utopia where everyone is equal, and no one is required to work because necessities are guaranteed. Though it is not currently realistic the end goal is a powerless world with no need for currency. Buckner dropped out of Harvard to experience a more equitable education at Chabot Community College in Hayward California where he majored in culinary arts. He now works at Mcdonalds on Telegraph Ave in Oakland. He has written 4 books, including How to dodge taxes like a millionaire, and The problem with power. He also runs a youtube channel with 1.6 million subscribers where he indoctrinates his young audience to his political takes.

Budgeting comes from a government or some form of power distributing the wealth of resources based around what is most valued and value directly ties to morality.

Henry Fleming is a Keynesian economist. His work focuses on helping to make sure that local economies are unlikely to fail. He is inspired by Robert Reich, and he believes in this economist’s idea that the Government should step in and help to fund medicare during times of crisis instead of cutting taxes for the rich. Fleming is passionate about the jarring cut in funding for social programs put in place by the previous administration. He studies economics because he believes that the government should be held responsible for inconsistent or hypocritical budgeting priorities. Henry Fleming is currently a professor at the University of Chicago.

My piece shows that the Trump administration values putting discretionary funding towards defense and security much more than putting that funding towards education and the health and human resources department. My document shows that morally, the Trump administration felt that funding the defense program was the correct thing to do, and that education and health should take a backseat to that. My infographic sought to criticize that, as while I do believe that military spending is important for the country as a whole, it should not be valued above education and the health and human resources department.

Julian Korchin is a Marxist-Leninist economist. His work focuses on critiquing the institution of capitalism, understanding the role it plays in international economic imperialism, and interpreting theory to present day application. In particular, they believe in Lenin’s ideas that late-stage capitalism manifests itself in exploitative imperialism, as capitalist infrastructure cannot support itself and must expand outward in the search for profit and growth. Korchin is passionate about equity in economics, believing that if economic systems are not creating opportunities, security, and comfort for all people, they are antithetical to their purpose. He has authored several books, including Capitalism and Climate Change: How Consumption Will Lead to Catastrophe, 21st Century Marx, and Transition: How to Plant the Seeds of Communism in Late Stage Capitalism. Korchin currently curates several channels on online platforms with the intention of making complex economic concepts more accessible.

Arryn V. W. Navone is a California senator. He actively works in the government to pass legislation that benefits economically neglected communities. Though Navone had not experienced a lack of personal economic wealth, he observed an obvious necessity in his home, Oakland and was interested in taking a route that would benefit Oakland and other economically mishandled communities (disabled, women, indigenous, immigrant, etc.) Navone considers himself a Keynesian Neo-Marxian economist as he has been inspired by Marx to look critically at wealth distribution in capitalism. He also is Keynesian as he views Keynes’ work as more probable based on the current economic climate of the United States. It is Navone’s idyllic view that the means of production for essential and necessary resources be controlled by the government in an equitable manner but that businesses remain allowed to distribute amenities. As for personal wealth, he believes there should be a cap which is maintained through taxation so that it is redistributed to benefit those who require wealth.

I am both critical of our US government and in recognition of the necessity in having an economy-controlling government. The same government which is misusing funds and undervaluing communities is the government which will allow us to regulate the wages of the rich, and prevent corporations from seizing land from indigenous people. If our society were solely capitalist, then the wealthy would spend it on things that benefitted them, rather than in an equitable way. The spending we see now is a representation of the beliefs of those in government. They see criminals as inherently bad, people to be punished instead of prevented. So? They put their money into policing because they believe that is the right thing to do based on their morals. If we were to have more community say in politics, though, perhaps that would change. In the infographic I talk about how it is a prominent sentiment that the right thing to do is defunding the police. The money going there could be used to fund the race and equity agency within the government and show that the government values its diverse citizens. Another important place to provide for is to underpaid teachers and low income schools, often in ethnically diverse communities.
