         <description><![CDATA[<p>The students are really enjoying the read alouds with the flip book pictures. They have a genuine curiosity for the topic, and it is something they have not learned about in any grade levels prior. However, the duration of the read alouds (30 min.) is a bit long so we tend to pause half way through and continue the next day. </p>]]></description>

Sometimes they use the word work vocabulary in their responses. There is a nice balance of literal and inferential questions that help to reinforce and retain information. </p>]]></description>

While I believe it is important for students to find "just right" books for independent reading, I would also like to be able to assign nightly reading that supports the unit of study.</p><p>I'm also curious as to what and with which units will the mentor text be fiction? Does the program use any pieces of literature from outside authors?</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>How the overall structure of a typical lesson works smoothly in small increments of time along side the phonics program? Do primary grade teachers typically teach one lesson in an entire school day? If so, do they space out the ELA block into two or three different chunks? </p><p><br/></p><p>There is a lot of teacher talk - for read alouds and facilitating intruction for the application tasks. How do you forsee growing student independence? I am also interested in the amount of independent reading incorporated into daily lessons.</p>]]></description>
