My name is Carlos Silva, from Portugal, i teach Moral Education and Religion. I work in public schools during the last 19 years. The subject i teach is optional, so i only have classes with students who have choosen this subject. It´s a challenge to make students choose to be with me instead of being outside or going home earlier than the others.

Low level collaboration activity:
The activity was a task to complete a work unit. Students had a work group with a simple task, just make a cartoon with 6 little boxes for drawing. At the end, each group presents his cartoon to the class using a projector and explaining the content of each cartoon box.
This activity requires a low collaboration between students because they can easily make the task between them or choose a box to each one and the cartoon can easily be made.

High level collaboration activity:
With a “large” group of students (60) the teacher presents the program in an auditorium. The presentation is a kind of motivation too. The important is make them believe in a project they can complete and be succeed. After that motivation, the teacher present the calendar for the all project with mandatory meetings. Students make their own groups with the limits presented (max. 10) and present ID of the group to the teacher. The communication with teacher is made using email, and moodle platform. The groups will use email and facebook groups between them. The teacher keeps giving feedback to students about their progress and making adjustments to each work group. Between students, they have to present regular summaries about the work and the individual effort in the group. Respecting the calendar, the students have the last large meeting to present their project work and defend their ideas. From all the projects, the students vote for the best that is selected to be presented to the entire school.

This activity requires a high collaboration between students because they have to make groups and make their work together. They have to take decisions and they have to reach a quality project. If they don´t work in collaboration, hardly they will reach a project to be presented and voted.
