I chose this picture because this is how I best understand plants roles in society and the environment. This picture is the process of photosynthesis. Plants go through photosynthesis which creates oxygen, which is what we need to breathe. Plants are also eaten by herbivores, which provides them with a source of energy.

This video best explains the process of photosynthesis to me. The video keeps things very simple, and visually shows you exactly what is going on. I find this video very easy to understand, and it explains it in a quick way without over complicating the process.

Population growth is a result from the Neolithic Revolution. Population growth caused diseases to spread due to so many people living in one area (one person infected and then it just keeps spreading). Another issue with population growth was the lack of food, and how much work that had to be done to keep up with the demand/needed amount of food.

An invention from the third agricultural revolution that catapulted the world of nations into a global society is GMOs. A Genetically modified organism is any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. I chose GMOs because they allowed for high yields, weather resistant crops, disease and pest resistant and could use less water during growth. I believe this was the most important due to how this benefitted developing countries.

In my opinion, the most influential chemical derived from a plant is Silvestrol. It comes from the plant aglaia foveolata. I believe it is the most influential because of its ability to help cure different cancers. Silvestrol is currently used to cure lung, breast, and prostate cancer. It also causes no damage to normal immune system cells (something other cancer treatments have done). I think in the next few years more and more doctors will use Silvestrol and that it will be the cure for many people.

People currently are not working on solving this trash problem/keep filling up landfills with more garbage so I believe if that doesn't get resolved than this is just part of what our future looks like.
