         <description><![CDATA[<div>This answer is intended to be read and understood by non Engineers.<br><br>Here is an analogy:<br>Question; Why does a tailor measure your height, and waist size ?<br>Answer: So that he can determine the cutting dimensions of the cloth for the best fit.<br><br>Question: Why does your vegetable vendor find the weight of the potatoes you buy?<br>Answer: So that he can charge you the right amount by applying the prevailing rate per kilo on that day.<br><br>Question: Why do we calculate shear force and bending moment?<br>Answer: So that we can determine the optimum size of the beam (like depth, cross sectional area, reinforcement details and the like) which will be both safe and also economical.</div>]]></description>
