It was first recognized in the United States in the 1970s. It can be a single dancer dance. The rope for the dance is tied tightly on the ceiling and the dancer would wrap their feet around it to "float". This dance can allow the dancers to explore space in three dimensions. 

There isn't a specific type of music that the aerial performers play. Some of these performers play music without words. The instruments in the music can be, violins, cello, bass, viola, and more! 

There aren't any specific groups that perform the aerial dance. Aerial dancers tend to perform this dance to push past their comfort zones. Aerial dance has grown in popularity in recent years. Aerial performers are blending modern dance and circus traditions together.
