In the NPR recording, "Brian Maturity Extends Well Beyond Teen Years" the speaker, Sandra Aamodt, a neuroscientist , believes that maturity in adults happens after the age of 18, closer to the age of 25.

"So the changes that happen between 18 and 25 are a continuation of the process that starts around puberty, and 18 year olds are about halfway through that process. Their prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed. That's the part of the brain that helps you to inhibit impulses and to plan and organize your behavior to reach a goal" (Aamodt).

"for instance, a 20 year old is 50 percent more likely to do something risky if two friends are watching than if he's alone" (Aamodt).

I agree with this article because I believe the science that is behind all of this and this explains why some people arn't ready to be an Adult at 18.

Yes this article links the novel Dear Martin because while Justyce grows up in the novel, he learns a lot off of what happened to him earlier.

In the news article, "When Are You Really an Adult?" the author, Maria Cramer, says that people that are around the age of 18 may not feel like they are ready for adulthood and laws should be passed to make these things happen later in life.

"It was in part, he said, a rebuke of a law Vermont passed in 2018 that banned the sale of firearms to most people under 21, and an attempt to show the absurdity of allowing 18-year-olds to goo to war but forbidding them from enjoying the constitutional rights and vices afforded to older Americans" (Cramer).

"'If 18-year-olds are burdened with the responsibility of adulthood, they should be afforded some of its privileges,' said Charlotte Lawson, a 21-year-old fourth-year student at the University of Virginia who wrote an opinion piece in the campus paper in 2018 calling for the drinking age to be lowered from 21" (Cramer).

I agree with this article because this also supports the reasons why people that are 18 may not be ready to take on this type of responsibility. They still need to grow up a little bit more and then they would be ready to take on the world themselves.

This article links to the story A Part Time Indian because of the character Junior, he has to learn a new way of living by going to a different high school and living a new life as being on a reservation as a tribe. This makes him explore new things that he has to do and grow up, still making silly mistakes here and there.

In the article "What Can You Do At 18 Legally?" The author, The Law of Dictionary, tells us about what and what you can do when you reach the age of 18. They state 20 different laws that you can have access to and what they may help you with when you reach that age.

"It is important to keep in mind that the responsibilities and consequences of being 18 are much more severe than they were as a minor. You are legally responsible for all of your actions, assets, and decisions" (The Law of Dictionary).

"While turning 18 comes with many new opportunities, rights, and responsibilities, there are a few restrictions that have yet to be lifted, like purchasing and drinking alcohol (21 years old)..." (The Law of Dictionary).

I disagree with some of the things that this article says because of what I have learned in the other 2 articles. They have explained that most people are not ready to take on adulthood since they may not be fully developed until the age of 25 meaning that the things that they get at 18 could be 7 years too early.

This article is also related to the Novel Dear Martin. In that novel, Justyce grows to be an adult in high school and eventually moves on to college. before that even happens, he loses one of his most important friends that he has to deal with losing when he is only 17. This affects him greatly on his actions and becomes more adult like, thus changing him for the better thought the novel.
