There is no clear evidence to show that's this man has a heart when he speaks of this lottery. This story is an ad that pretty much says, "Look what our town is doing, doesn't it look fun?!" The author shows how everybody was excited for the event. He tells how the children were happy and went about gathering stones. When Bill was selected for the first draw, Tessie complains that they weren't given enough time to choose the paper. Tessie was obviously jealous of her husband winning the lottery and called it unfair. She starts complaining about a redraw and the town restarts the lottery. On the second draw, Tessie got the card with the spot on it.
