The film shows and describes the trenches of WWI that they are in a really bad condition, also that they are dug pretty deep that they need sand bags and wood to support the dirt so it doesn’t fall on the soilders. It also shows that the living conditions there aren’t really that good, Like when the two main characters went to the Germans side they had beds and stuff to sleep in during the night. But on the English side they had no beds to sleep in the just slept on the dirt. The thing about living on the trenches was they didn’t have that much supply of food or water so they had to ration what they had. Finally another way that the trenches was showed was that it kind of kept them safe from the Germans because it was a pretty deep dugout so the Germans couldn’t see them if they were standing up or anything.

The 2 British soldiers had to overcome many obstacles in their missing so they could reach the Devons. One of them was that they went into the trenches of the Germans and went deep inside their dugout but the Germans had boobytraped the place because the knew that the British were going to go their dugout, that was a huge obstacle because it could’ve costed one of the soldiers life’s. Another huge obstacle that they had to face is that one of the British soldiers died because he tried to help a German soldier. When his plane crash by getting him some water but when one of the British soldiers went to go get some water, the German pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the British soldiers. Finally the final obstacle that the British soldier had to face was that he got into a gunfight with a Germany in Ecust, and he thought he killed him but when he walked in on him they both exchanged bullets but the British soldier shot the Germany soldier and the German soldier hit the British soldier in the head but he had a helmet so it knocked him out for a little while.

KLEON

One of the problems the soldiers had to overcome in their mission was the situation with the rat and how they almost lost their lives because of it. There were many traps on their way so they had to be very careful on where they were going and what they were stepping on. Another problem they overcame in their mission was the plane crash. They didn’t expect the plane to crash in the exact place where they were standing. After they tried to help the person that was in the plane because they didn’t want him to die there. He killed on of the British solider while the other one wasn’t paying attention. Life of a solider in World War I was extremely hard. They didn’t have much to eat and had no choice of deciding if they wanted to go somewhere dangerous. In the movie they also showed how the woman he met on his way lived with the baby which wasn’t even her.

1.The film 1917 vividly depicts the harsh and grim conditions of the WWI trenches. The trenches are shown as muddy, cramped, and filled with exhausted soldiers, emphasizing the miserable and unsanitary environment. Dead bodies, rats, and abandoned weapons litter the ground, showing the brutality of war. The film also highlights the emotional and physical toll on soldiers, who suffer from hunger, fatigue, and constant fear of enemy attacks.

2.The two soldiers, Schofield and Blake, face multiple challenges throughout their journey. One major obstacle is crossing No Man’s Land, which is filled with barbed wire, craters, and the threat of enemy snipers. They must carefully navigate through this dangerous area while staying hidden. Another significant challenge is the collapse of a German bunker, which nearly buries Schofield alive. He struggles to escape while dust and debris make it difficult to see and breathe. A third obstacle is the river scene, where Schofield is swept away by strong currents and must fight to stay afloat.

The film describes the trenches in WW1 like it was one of the most depressing places to be at that moment. You barely had any room to feel comfortable, you always have to be aware of your surroundings, and you have to always expect the unexpected. When the two soilders had to walk past everyone, it took them awhile because the trenches are so narrow and packed. They also didnt have a lot much food supply so they had to starve themselves until they could eat again. One last thing I noticed was that it was so long, I wonder how long it took to dig out the trenches.

The two soldiers had to deal with traps which almost costed their life. They had to make sure that they were also very cautious at all cost no matter where they went. They were walking miles on out just to get to their destination. Unfortunalty, a plane crashed directly to them. Which caused them to check of the pilot of he was ok. But then the pilot stabbed one of them which led him to die.

The life was definitely hard back then. First of all you had to wake up knowing you could die at anytime possible. As a solider you’ll also probably think about your family back home all the time. Just being gone from them for so long has to hurt. Last part I think I solider has to deal with is just thinking constantly on getting out of the trenches.

Damien

Be descriptive and use the imagery of the film to help answer this question.

The film shows/describes the trenches as a hole or tunnel that the men would hide in that was used as a shield and shelter. Being in the trenches for weeks at a time was not good because there was little supplies. Also living in that environment was hard to adapt to due to all the adjustments. It was also hard to live in the trenches because the soldiers were far from their family’s and friends. Lastly it was traumatizing for the soldiers having to see their friends and other soldiers pass away and get severely injured.

List and describe three (3) obstacles (problems) that the 2 British soldiers had to overcome in their mission to reach the Devons.

The first obstacle was having to walk across no man’s land, where the land is open and they are more likely to get shot. Secondly having to be careful of planes that would pop up and not knowing if it was theirs. Lastly was going into the Germans trenches not aware of traps and not knowing if there was soldiers in there. With all of that they still managed to get very far in till the one British soldier passed. Overall the soldiers had to be very careful with the many hardships they had to endure.

 Ardita

1.The life of the soldiers wasn’t a fairy tale they lived in filth, and struggled to survive. People thing that they had houses that they lived in while the war was happening, but that’s farther then the truth. They lived in trenches, and had to be there in case Germans crossed over the border/fence. They were in danger 24/7.

2. They had a lot of obstacles trying to reach the Devons, and one of them ended up dying. Blake was killed, stabbed by a German pilot during the mission across enemy territory. William had to cross over a bridge that were guarded by a German. Which almost resulted in William dying near tower of Ecoust. They had to get through Barbed wire, the Germans had constructed barbed wire barriers along the beach to slow down the British. But when he escaped the Germans that were trying to shoot at him, he jumped to a river, and almost drowned until he reached the Devons.

Finally, the weather and adverse weather conditions added an extra level of difficulty to his mission. When Blake dies, Schofield is heartbroken but continues his mission because many lives depend on him. The weather was cold and wet, and soldiers had to march through mud, rivers, and destroyed towns. Schofield nearly drowns in a river and is covered in mud, showing how tough the journey was. Sometimes they had little food and rarely got enough sleep.

1. In the movie 1917, the trenches are shown as muddy, dark, and very cramped places. Soldiers lived in uncomfortable conditions, surrounded by filth, and gross smells. The solders always look tired and dirty, which shows how hard it must have been to survive in that condition.

2. Obstacles Faced by the Soldiers. First, they have to cross dangerous areas filled with enemy snipers and artillery fire. This makes their journey really risky, as any wrong move could get them killed. Second, they encounter a broken bridge that they must find a way to cross. Lastly, they are racing against the clock to deliver their message before an attack begins.

Fighting in WW1 must’ve been traumatizing, especially if you’re fighting in the conditions that the english soldiers were or even worse. Additionally, living in those dirty, crowded, and loud, conditions is very difficult and you would need lots of self control and patience to do it. I bet that it was very difficult for the soldiers to find even a little sense of peace or comfort whilst in the trenches. Adding on, they didn’t have much food or water so they had to save it and be cautious of how much they ate or drank. Lastly, their mental health probably wasn’t the best that it could be, especially in the conditions they were in and just fighting all day and night.

In the movie 1917, the two British soldiers overcame many obstacles to reach the Devons. First, they went to the German’s trenches and tried to invade them, but they noticed that it was completely empty. Then they proceeded to go further into their sleeping chambers and they saw a tripwire, so they began to be very careful to not step on it but they saw a mouse who stepped in the tripwire and knocked the entire base down, and they barely got out. Then, one of the soldiers got stabbed by a German pilot while getting caught in a plane crash, and later died. Lastly, as William tried to escape the German’s shooting at him near the french town of Ecoust’e, he jumped into a river and managed to escape, but he almost drowned and lost all hope right before reaching the Devons.
