I was able to have a very active and exciting childhood by constantly being outdoors. The community was small, so I was very close with all my neighbors and classmates. Growing up in a small town has inherently made me very close with many people, and even adopt certain aspects of Alaskan culture and knowledge. Because my parents are divorced, and I lived in Alaska, I wasn't able to see my dad much and build a relationship with him. Poetry has helped me release creativity and cultivate a space for me to feel comfortable and understood. Although natural sciences were more focused on, I fell in love with the idea of virology and diseases at a young age. Through field trips to study tides, and projects about disorders, I learned to love to figure out how we work, and how diseases develop.
