An item that has been in my family for a long time is an old clothes iron, the one that is entirely made of iron and in which you would put hot charcoal instead of water.

It was given to my great grandma as a wedding gift and has since been in our family. Today though, it is only used for decoration

Since I was a kid, my grandma had always told me that I was going to inherit an old gold coin on my eighteenth birthday. And so this year, when we were at a celebratory family lunch she brought it out and gave it to me. She told me, like her grandfather told her, that this coin has been in the family for a long time and that it is to be looked after and later given to the my first born grandchild to carry it on.

There aren't many heirlooms in my family because my great-grandparents never had had enough money to have bought anything that would last. Everyday items were used until they were finished, and then new ones were bought to replace them. One of the few things that managed to survive several generations are Christmas decorations. So today we have old Christmas decorations and baubles that my great-grandparents had bought. Since the decorations are only used few days a year, they are well preserved. The decorations have great sentimental value.

An item that has been in my family for a long time is an old piano that was bought by my grandparents. My brother knows how to play the piano, so he used to practice on it, and I’ve also tried it a few times, although I don't know how to play. The piano is quite out of tune and not in the best condition, so it's not played anymore, but it still serves as a decoration.

An item that has been in my family for a long time is our Volkswagen Golf 3. My dad had bought it back in 2002, and since then it has been passed from one family member to another. The painting portrays Madonna reading to baby Jesus, who is sitting in her lap. I have always liked the painting, and even though it isn't something I will inherit, I still consider it our family heirloom.

n my family recipes are passed on. My late grandmother, my fathers mother, had been making best sarma ever. When my mother became a part of the family grandmq taught her how to make it. Same goes with recipe for štrukli that my other grandma makes. My mom learned it and they both still make it today. Even if it's not something phisical, it is still part of our tradition.
