I answered my research question to a small extent, as it was only one persons perspective. Some questions like what is your name were unneeded as I already knew the person, apart from this all my questions benefitted my understanding of the research question. I believe I did establish a good rapport as I welcomed them to the interview, made them aware of ethical considerations, and said goodbye nicely. All ethical issues were explained. An interview was not the best method, instead, a questionnaire is more helpful as it gives the views of a larger group of people which could be generalised to a wider population. Audio was recorded then transcribed. Overall, I think the interview went very well though one person's opinion is not as beneficial as the results a questionnaire can give. Next time, I could possibly interview more than one person as the view of one person is not beneficial to the research question.

My research question was answered sufficiently.
All of my 5 questions provided suitable answers for my interview.
My candidate gave answers of a few sentences for each question.
Me and the candidate had already been good acquaintances prior.
I asked for the candidates consent and informed them of the ethics and the data would be used.
I found that the interview provided more meaningful answers than the questionnaire.
I think my interview went well and lasted around 6 minutes.
Perhaps think of a more interesting research question.

Research question answered to a certain extent – hard with only one person. Some unnecessary questions. All questions got detailed responses. All ethical issues explained, good rapport established. Good when used in conjunction with a questionnaire.	Next time I would try to interview more than one person

What went well? I think the interview was conducted in an ethical and professional manner, where the questions I asked flowed and led to discussions. What didn’t? I think that the questions could’ve been more focused maybe, as it is such a broad topic it was hard to keep narrow and totally relevant. What have you learnt? I’ve learnt a fair bit from this interview, how to communicate and present one. This method gave a much broader and more specific range of information than the questionnaire as you could actually get conversational with it, giving more in depth answers rather than just checking a box.

However, they weren't very relevant to my question so I need to focus my questions more next time. I found it hard to establish a good rapport over Zoom as people generally don't feel as comfortable when they're not face-to-face.

The candidate and I had already established good rapport and the interview therefore went smoothly. I did feel as though there were a number of questions that were less relevant than I first anticipated, but without them the interview wouldn't have flown as well as it did.

It mostly answered my research question but the interview was only with one person so was relatively difficult. Most of the answered given were well explained and expanded on. Beforehand all the ethical issues were explained and a rapport was established. Overall i think questionnaire was more useful; than the interview as i got a range of answers. Also due to being over video call sometimes there was bad connection and couldn’t tread body language well. Overall, it went well but next time i would make sure I’m somewhere will better signal and definitely interviewed more than one person.

I didn't have many interview questions to ask as i chose to let the interviewee lead the interview by following up on important points they made. I would definitely need to do multiple interviews with a range of people to get a conclusive answer to my research question but this interview did give a good response to my research question. I think i did establish a good rapport as people are generally quite willing to talk in detail about holidays they've been on. I did explain the ethical considerations and the recording did work but the sound wasn't very clear

What went well: The discussion flowed better than I expected despite it being online. I could explore their thoughts and feeling better than I could with questionnaires. All ethical issues were explained.
What didn't go well: The technological setup was difficult at first. I struggled to take enough notes during the interview.
What have you learned: I need to record the interview as I struggled to take notes. Online interviews are less effective for an older demographic. Allow the interviews to follow their own flow, you tend to get a better idea of common themes around your topic.

•	Did I answer my research question? (As there is only one interview this is clearly very limited, but reflect on how well you framed your research questions)

It cannot be said that I answered my research question because only one person was interviewed, however the question was able to be answered as they had strong opinions and I was able to find out why they believed the things they did.
•	Did all of my interview questions help answer this question? Or were some unnecessary

Following the results of my questionnaire I chose not to ask whether they take more photos on holiday than at home because I was more interested in posting. However, there were some elements were the person I was talking to was generally just passionate about food not more or less so on holiday.

•	Did my interview generate a good response? Or did you just get yes/no answers

My interview did generate a good response, they talked at length without much prompting.

•	Did I establish a good rapport? This is probably easier as the person will already be known to you, but did you make them feel at ease?

I established a good rapport by telling them what was going to happen beforehand, so they felt comfortable and making sure to reply and be engaged.

•	Did I explain all the ethical issues? Confidentiality, recording etc

I explained all the ethical issues. Prior to recording to ensure they were okay with recording.

•	Was an interview a good method to answer my research question? Would a questionnaire or other method have been better/or good to use in conjunction (triangulation)

I think the two methods of questionnaire and interviews work in conjunction as long as you were able to see who had answered a particular way and ask them to be in an interview so you had a variety of responses.

•	Did the recording/technical aspects work? I am not asking you to transcribe it, but you need to check you could if needed

The recording aspects worked fine, the only problem would be if I had to do a longer interview than 40 minutes as I do not have zoom premium.

•	What were my overall feelings about how the interview went?

I feel the interview generally went well. However, I still feel I would need more research to answer my research question.

•	What would I do differently/improve next time?

Next time I would ask more questions investigating whether the person was generally passionate about food or whether holidays made their opinions differ.

My questions generated good conversation and a good response, however, I did input my opinion and talk about my own experiences which creates bias. I asked for consent, but next time I should put more effort into the ethical issues. I didn't record my conversation, so that is something I'll need to be careful about next time. Overall, the interview went well, I got long answers that were relevant to my question and it also allowed me to ask questions I hadn't thought about before, but next time, I won't input my opinion and I will make sure to get the technical and ethical issues sorted out.

I answered my research question and conducted the interview by following different pointers which I found really helpful as it enabled the interview to flow well and lead in to different areas which I hadn't considered. My interview generated a good response, however it would have been more reliable if I conducted multiple ones. I explained all ethical considerations at the beginning, outlining everything that was going to happen in the interview and after - in terms of the recording. An interview was a good method to answer my research question in conjunction with the questionnaire as it gave me the more in depth answers I was lacking for for the questionnaire. There were a few technical issues as the beginning in terms of wifi and this made it hard to communicate with them.

I was definitely provided a more depth in response however, I do believe this was due to my familiarity with the interviewee and therefore they had a level of understanding of my language. I believe that all of my questions did contribute to answering my questions considering the short amount of time that there was. Due to my familiarity with my interviewee and also due to them being of a more mature age it meant that they not only had more experiences to talk about but, were also more familiar with an interview setting. I do believe that an interview is a good research method, however, would most likely be effective if there was more than one person to be interviewed. That is why it is effective to use it in combination with a questionnaire. To improve next time, I would potentially include follow up questions/ extra questions in case I get through all the questions and there is still time left.
