Brian's winter is related to the book hatchet. In hatchet, a book was on his way to see his dad when the pilot died and he had to fly the plane. He ran out of gas and crash-landed. In the end, he was survived by a bush pilot after he found an emergency radio on the plane and called for help. In Brian's winter, the author writes about what would have happened if he did not get saved before winter.
