1. GIF is an abbreviation for graphics Interchange Format

2. GIF format supports up to 8 bits per pixel for each image

3. Colour Palette - GIF uses 24-Bit RGB colour space, which gives around 256 Colours to choose from.

4. GIF can not support a CMYK profile in turn meaning GIF's are in a RGB format

5. Animation Support - Although GIF was originally created as a more efficient file format than the older RLE format, it became more popular thanks to it gaining the ability to support multi-frame images, or animations if you will.

6. Usage - GIFs are used by all kinds of people and on all kinds of websites, whether it be a preview of a video, a preview of a product, a small animated art piece, as emoticons, etc.

7. Suitability - GIFs are relatively small in terms of file size, meaning that they are well suited for usage online, as they are capable of being loaded quickly.

You can only select one out of the 256 possible colors in a GIF to be transparent.

What is Interlacing
Interlaced video is a technique for doubling the perceived frame rate of a video display without consuming extra bandwidth.

What is the colour palette that can be supported?

It can supported up to 8 bits of colour depth, with a single image to reference its own palette of up to 256 different colours chosen from the 24 RGB space.

What does this mean in terms of image quality?

The image quality simply means level of accuracy in which different imaging systems capture, process, store, compress. In conclusion of this the picture's expression and how it shown will determined if a image quality is good or bad.

What is dithering?

Dithering is the process of using two colours to simulate the shade of a third colour by putting the dots of two different colours close together.

What does dithering do to the file compression of a GIF?

It can reduce smooth colour gradients into discernible bands of colour. In which, at lower bit-depths, colour quantization, making these colour transition zones to minimize banding. The compression algorithms used in GIF are dictionary or substitution-style schemes.

How would you keep a GIF animation file size small?

You reduce the dimension of the image, as well as reducing the frame of a image.
