She proves this by reading to Miss Caroline and she was astonished by how literate she was. Without anyone teaching her, she learned how to teach herself. She has developed her own knowledge and skills and didn't even need teaching. This comes to show that you can learn from your surroundings and not just from a classroom. Scout demonstrates a form of natural intelligence, educated yet not through the school system of Maycomb. Scout's perspective on education has been slightly offset from "positive" because of Miss Caroline's accusation towards Scout's reading and writing ability. Her knowledge and skills came from college and a bigger city so teaching will be different than a little town where everyone knows everyone. He is educated on something far larger: life itself. Despite never going to school, which some may consider as the only way to be "educated", Atticus is still able to give sound advice to Scout. He's walked the paths of Earth and is now able to pass on what he has learned. What he has learned is not about expanding the mind but about expanding the way of life. This is one way that education has changed over the years. Modern education has made great lengths in making education available to all. Most schools even offer free lunch services.
