This is an artist we have learnt about and researched through our project so far. He was an English painter and printmaker known for his bold canvases, which often incorporated elements of photorealism within a pared-down scene. Examples of his work are Pottery and Still Life Ingredients. I find his work very interesting as he manages to create art out of such simplistic everyday objects a person wouldn’t usually pay much attention to.

Keith Haring was a well-known artist and activist during the 1980s, when he was a member of the renowned New York art scene. While he is most known for his vibrant paintings and recognisable themes like the radiant infant and barking dog, much of his work was inspired by current social and political events. The fight to eliminate apartheid, the AIDS pandemic, and drug misuse were all part of this. Haring opted to reflect the struggles of the LGBTQ community in his work, especially homosexual rights, as an openly gay artist. He began sketching at New York subway stations, covering vacant poster spots with chalk drawings that people would pass through every day, inspired by graffiti artists.
