This book was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1941. The beautiful pictures to help tell the story. Teachers should read this to their young students so that students will hear the fluency, and learn the more difficult words. This story will challenge students to know their special sounds, diagraphs and dipthongs. Chunking the words will help students to read some of the longer words. Students will learn new CVVC words, CVC words, and VCe words. This fun book is great for rhyming. Children love this story because of the rhythmic pattern of the rhymes. It also gives students practice with CVC and VCe words. It is a classic for all ages.

Curious George is one of my personal favorites. He is always getting into trouble because he is curious. Many children relate to this  little monkey. In the story, children will learn and practice high frequency words. This was one of my favorite books as a child because of how funny it is and because of the rhymes. Phonological awareness focuses on rhyme awareness. By reading this story, students will become more familiar with word families. The teacher could have the students tell her what words rhyme and write them down.
