McCloskey, R., (1941). Make way for ducklings. New York: The Viking Press.
This book was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1941. The beautiful pictures to help tell the story. Teachers should read this to their young students so that students will hear the fluency, and learn the more difficult words. This story will challenge students to know their special sounds, diagraphs and dipthongs. Chunking the words will help students to read some of the longer words. Students will learn new CVVC words, CVC words, and VCe words. It also focuses on the -ack rhyme.
