Greek architecture is known for its use of tall columns, which were designed to convey a sense of balance and strength. Marble was commonly used in temple construction, as it was considered a pure material that reflected the perfection of the gods. Stone was also a key material, and rectangular or square floor plans were often employed. Additionally, the Greeks developed the classical orders Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian which were later adopted by the Romans. For my design, I would like to incorporate stone structures to create a more natural and timeless feel for the pavilion.

The Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge located in southern France, built in the 1st century CE to transport water to the city of Nîmes. Its most notable feature is its three-tiered design, consisting of arches of varying sizes. The lower arches provide structural support, while the middle tier channels water, and the top tier adds further stability. Constructed from finely cut limestone, the aqueduct showcases Roman expertise in dry masonry and engineering, with no mortar used between the stones.

Standing 48.8 meters (160 feet) tall and spanning 275 meters (902 feet), the Pont du Gard is both an engineering marvel and a visual icon. Its precise design ensured a steady, gravity-fed flow of water over a distance of 50 kilometers (31 miles). The structure blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape, highlighting the Romans' ability to integrate function with beauty.

Today, the Pont du Gard is a UNESCO World Heritage site and remains one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture, admired for its scale, craftsmanship, and enduring legacy in the history of engineering.

If Byzantine architecture were constructed today, its key features would include domes, mosaics, and a cross-in-square plan. The use of large domes, like the iconic one in the Hagia Sophia, would remain central, often supported by pendentives. Elaborate mosaics depicting religious figures and scenes would continue to adorn the interiors, adding rich visual texture. The cross-in-square plan would offer a balanced, symmetrical layout for churches or other spaces.

For my design, I would like to incorporate the dome element, drawing from the grandeur and timelessness of Byzantine architecture.

If this style were applied today, the key features would include:

Symmetry and Proportion: Neoclassical architecture is defined by a sense of balance and harmony, with designs often based on classical proportions from ancient Greek and Roman architecture. This creates a visually appealing and orderly aesthetic.

Columns and Pilasters: The use of columns in the classical orders Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian is prominent, with columns supporting structures like porticoes or used as decorative elements throughout the building. These add a sense of grandeur and elegance.

Pediments: Triangular, often decorative, pediments above columns are a common feature, often used to highlight the main entrance or focal points of the design.

Classical Entablature: The entablature, a horizontal structure resting atop columns, is typically divided into three parts: the architrave, frieze, and cornice, each contributing to the overall classical aesthetic.

Rectilinear Forms: Neoclassical buildings are often designed with rectangular shapes and straight lines, which emphasize simplicity and order, giving the design a formal, stately appearance.

For my design, I would like to incorporate symmetry and proportion to achieve a balanced and harmonious look, combined with classical elements like columns and rectilinear forms to give the design a timeless, elegant feel.
