Students will rotate around 4 stations in groups of about 6 each. These stations will be used as a way for them to interactively engage in each role responsibility. They will be using this passage in each station:

To learn how to use each role and the responsibilities required of each one, the students will rotate between 4 stations. Each station is designated for one of the roles. They will spend 5-10 minutes at each station completing the activities. As an introudcition, we will watch this short video about literary roles.

Station 1 - Discussion Director

At the discussion director station, the students will read the passage provided and will create 2 or 3 open-ended questions about what they just read, to be later shared with the class.

Station 2 - Vocabulary Enricher

Students will pick words from passage that they do not know and highlight those words. They will then look up those words in a dictionary to better understand those words and share them with the group.

Station 3 - Passage Master

At the passage master station, the students will review the same passage as the other stations. They will decide what they feel the main idea is and write it on an index card.

Station 4 - Summarizer

In this last station, the students will summarize what the passage was about by creating a mini comic strip with 3 pictures. This will show what the beginning, middle, and end of the passage was about.

Class discussion

Once stations are over, we will come back together as a class. The students will discuss what roles they liked, their thoughts on the roles, share their discussion questions, vocabulary, and main ideas they found, and anything they struggled with or need more practice with their roles.

Exit Ticket

At the end of the discussion, each will write an exit ticket. The exit ticket will ask them to write a brief summary of each role in their own words.
