I have taken several notes on things that I would like to investigate further. I also want to take some of these ideas back to my own classroom. I love some of these topics as we have discussed these in my classroom. I love the use of videos and texts in unison is an excellent way to generate all kinds of language in the classroom. I think that this language coupled with the nature of the subject matter fosters reaction in students. When this reaction is scaffolded properly it becomes disrupting to the status quo and revolutionary. Students want to be a part of positive social change.

The ILT course that you co-teach is one that I would have found very valuable as an undergraduate student. I have discussed some of these topics with my Geography students (ewaste, child labor and sweat shops, child brides) but I really like the various ways that you presented the information. It is important to remember that some of these things might already impact our students' lives. I liked the fact that you emphasized creating a safe space within the classroom where these topics could be addressed. My favorite part of each morning session in SAWP is that I am continually inspired to be a better teacher.

As a an educator of multicultural children, and of the teachers of young people I consider our place in fighting exploitation. It extremely saddens and angers me that young people globally, and close by are preyed upon for monetary and sadistic gains. We must strive to notice, prevent, and speak out to everyone (including our students) to protecting young people from these circumstances.

A lot of the topics were topics that we go over in Contemporary World Cultures. This gives a guide and ideas for discussion and to get the students thinking (of course there are some things that wouldn't be a good idea for 6th grade). I believe it's important to start having these discussions and giving the space to do so ☺

The Ted Talk was hard to watch and I think this is this is a social justice issue about which my students need to become aware. I would include human trafficking in the countries from which they come and continue with human trafficking happening hear in the United States and here in San Antonio. This is not something that happens over there. That is the importance of social justice, we have to bring it home to where they live and relevant to their lives.

I think that the multi-modal nature of the course is something that I need to incorporate more into my own classes. I also think that the formation of a professional partnership in developing the course curriculum is something that I need to pursue in my own work at UTSA. Collaborating with another cohort member can really help to enhance my classroom practices, especially since most professors within my discipline are focused on content areas.
