Those changes seemed to aim at better preparing students for the DP program as well as prepare them to think like mathematicians. They also allow for a more continuity between the PYP, MYP and DP. A huge shift from content to thinking and reasoning. I think those changes are necessary.

·       Allows for a much smoother transition between PYP – MYP & DP
·       Closes the gap between MYP and DP with the new 4-5 Extension option
·       Raises the rigor with the Prior Knowledge from PYP to MYP
·       Many related concepts remain unchanged but those removed make sense to remove double-handling
·       Much greater focus on REASONING which is excellent. More about THINKING and conceptual understanding than just mathematics. Much more time to think about where, why and how mathematics fits into our world.

I can imagine that some students in my school will welcome it. The differentiation in levels of difficulty is one of essential strategies in reaching all students and maximizing their engagement. The guide hasn't changed much, the inquiry, constructivist nature of mathematics has ben retained which is very important. Aims, objectives, key concepts, and structuring of global contexts and statements of statements of inquiry hasn't changed. In the process, some of these items might be necessary to modify in order to create units that reflect on   established changes  and to strengthen flow between PYP and MYP programs and avoid overlaps. The exclusion of justification and measurement from related concepts might be the first step.

Definitely 'Focus on reasoning' is a very apt name but also description.
I think a prior learning list will be a very useful guide and the possible enrichment at 4/5 will allow for flexibilty and interesting extension.
 I am not sure about eAssessments exams if they are new or just something we have not implemented.

More continuity from PYP-MYP-DP
Prior learning in MYP 1 is great, gives target for Primary, shows a common starting point for MYP, allows teachers (knowing what expected prior knowledge is) to identify gaps in students prior knowledge and fix them early.
The focus on reasoning and conceptual understanding is great. Not just getting through content, more focused on the "WHY?"
No changes to assessment criteria or programs (key concepts, contexts, ATLS, Inquiry questions related concepts (except justification and measurement removed and validity and approximation added)
Good enrichment in extended classes, will allow more students the chance to access DP HL
