I found this label type at my boyfriend's house; he loves hot sauce so I was looking at all of the different fonts and designs on his bottles when I found this one. It says "los calientes, and I realized that flows off the tongue very easily, almost like speaking in cursive which is what the owner used. I thought that was pretty interesting, but what made the entire look was the fiery yellow color matched with a bold, black shadow. This type pairs really well with its product through the meaning behind the word as well as the emotion being felt from initial contact; The way you react to the sauce's flavor and heat should compare, in some way, shape, or form, to how you felt when you first read the words.

I remember taking a photo of this typewriter lego set for my mom originally, but then I realize it would be a perfect example for (what I think) this journal. The first thing I noticed was actually the border design, which matches the type's design. The way that the letters are being kerned further away as you read the word was easy for my mind to visually take in. After really looking at it did I notice the spacing however, which stood out to me in the sense that people don't realize how much thought goes into something as simple as one defining word. crazy.

Okay, so this was amazing to me and spoke volumes, because LOOK AT IT!! It screams craziness, from the colors to the font to the typeface itself. Also, I think what brought everything together for my eyes was the way the texture within the background colors bled seamlessly into the bold, darker yellow letters. also, I was wondering why the words are all so close together, and I realized it's probably because the product is a circular popcorn bin; so if the letters were further apart, viewers would get bored having to twist it around all the way: At least that was my perspective haha.

I got this at Hobby Lobby for the reason of my chapped lips lol, but I felt like Burt's Bees has a very original and vintage style: I think the only reason that it has stayed around for so long, however, is because of the story that comes along with it about Burt and Roxanne. That story was loved so much, and since it has to do with the produce they sold, it makes it a loved, original idea. So since they nailed this font, everything stayed successful. I was curious about the background, so I did some research and read about the two's story, and I did some pondering back on what the font would have to do with it:)

This was just some promotional ad from a magazine: I thought it would've been a cool idea to add to this journal because I think it fits very well with the theme. The all uppercase lettering, and thick font with sharp edges that cut off at the baseline resembled a feeling to me that emphasized 'POP!'. Also, I think it was really clever for them to put simple circular shapes as the background because it reminded me of like a balloon popping, if that makes sense. Isn't too busy though!

I know this is just grip tape, but when I saw it, I had to take a picture because I was pretty disappointed. The Typeface itself is fine, and I enjoy the thickness, as well as the white cut-out at the spine of the letters, but I think the bear itself is too soft. Grizzly reminds people of bears immediately, and Grizzly Bears are not friendly. They are fierce and dangerous, so I felt like this word's typeface AND design should have been cohesively just that.

I always love looking at the Jello Brands, and I decided that this is why: The rich, deep colors that are chosen for each flavor immediately lure customers to glance at it, and then you see that the one thing with a blurred background is the title, JELL-O. It's in all Capital Letters, and the spacing is evenly displayed, which brings a cleaner approach to the crazy design. Perfect balance.

The Alka-Seltzer logo just didn't sit right with me and honestly I think it's the spacing and the added layer to the letters. If I could change this, I would probably put them in all Caps, keep the Italicized font, but I'd thin out the boldness a little bit and then kern the letters closer to one another, and further away from the dash in the center. I just felt like it didn't feel right to read it as one whole word, which is good because it's supposed to be two separate words.

This is one of my favorite tanners lol, and I had just ordered some the other week, and when I picked it up I thought about Typography! And honestly, this was very well thought out when it comes to a neat, simple, yet affective type design logo. Throughout this experience I've come to notice that everyone looks at things differently, but color will always catch someones eye in a similar way. Looking at this bottle, those cuddle hints of yellow and white and orange behind the dark brown just go with the theme behind the overall brand itself. Also, I realized that every word is in uppercase letters, not just the logo. However, The main brand title's font is more soft and subtle, which is what people like to think about when they hear the word "Hawaiian".

I liked the type on this logo, and I think I'm starting to see a theme here with my love for original-looking styles. The color red attracts our gland that makes us hungry, and so I thought that it was really smart for Quaker to be all red, as well as the character above it. The Capitalized letters really does help put an emphasis on demand, yet I wonder about the thin letters: It's almost like the spacing between the two is the same, but then you look at the thin letters and it's like, "I wonder if those should be tracked together more." And yeah, I think it is great to know the origin of things, but when it comes to food, I feel like maybe the date can be tracked closer to the EST.

I won this at Dave and Busters and thought that the type design was really great! For something like a boxing glove that someone wouldn't willingly buy. this is perfect for showing the name of the company you won it from, without taking too much away from both the product and it's productiveness.

This was hanging up in the African American museum in DC, and I think it was the ears on the ends of the letters that drew my eyes to them. I then noticed how well the design paired with the logo! It's like a target, but just with the same outlined and filled in colors. And, I think looking back it, that the ears also sort of lead me to look at the center strip in between the words, which then leads me to it's design. Very interesting to think about!

I took this photo at my boyfriend's mom's rental house at the time, because I wanted to know the reasoning behind it. I don't know anything about this, but what I did know, was that there was no way this was meant for a promotional advertisement. It's more supposed to be a cute, random decoration; and that's why I think the typeface works. The first and last letters have a very neat design, with the spine of the 'L' curving inwards just a bit, and both 'L' and 'C' creating small, open counters on the x-heights.

I remember thinking how stupidly simple this font was, but then thinking how direct it is. It's funny, because I want to say the type works with it's job, but usually when people see something that says "Free Product Giveaway", they want to make it known and they want others to be interested. This kind of sign tells viewers otherwise, with only ONE UPPERCASE LETTER within the entire phrase. The boring yellow and bold, under-case words gives off the feeling of a some kind of warning sign or something that tells you to follow rules. No one wants to do that, so if they want to get something out of this, it needs to be full of spunk, capitalization, and giveaway should be tracked further apart.

This was from an ad from the Super Bowl, and I was very confused. I forget what the ad was about, and looking at this photo, it doesn't help me remember at all, lol. I mean, I think it would work for a campaign, but obviously Kennedy is dead, so I feel like this is inappropriate, especially for an ad on the Super Bowl, but also I feel like it had to be a joke. Nonetheless, it still would work really well for a President campaign! The red colors, and the stars represent two aspects of our country. Also, The thick, Uppercase Letters represent power, but I do think the 'FOR' needs to be tracked a little closer to 'PRESIDENT', because I felt like my eyes were going too far left to look for it.

This was a mail insert that came in at my parents’ house; I chose this because I felt like there was a bit of a hierarchy and color problem. The message is intended to ‘congratulate’ whoever received it, however even with my picture being taken so close up, I realized that you can barely see what you’re being congratulated for. The second thing I read after “Congratulations” was “Better World”, Which doesn’t make too much sense to me. I can assume it either for a doctor thing or for some organization. Either way, I feel like those elements need to be emphasized with both size itself as well as color- maybe use a completely different tone of color to have the message stand out.

These are Eclipse viewing glasses that I got off amazon: I think the typography is fine actually, but what really confuses me is both the logo and the name of the company. The space background helps viewers understand a little bit more, but the crown almost gives off the impression that these could be movie theater glasses of some sort. I’m not sure about the name, but yeah I definitely was interested in why the creators chose that logo to go with their type design.

This little Polaroid came as an extra inside my Taylor Swift 1989 Record CD; I chose it because the type design looks like it was handwritten, and technically it was (I think); so, I thought it would be interesting to add in a sort of ‘original script’ type of font. It definitely matches the theme, and I think that Taylor Swift actually does pay lots of attention to typographic details within her marketing designs, otherwise she would not be where she is today when it comes to merchandise.

This is a tag connected to a reusable book cover I bought my mom; I thought it would be a good addition to my journal because of the informative, yet simple aspect it gives off just through the typography alone. There is no design, on distractions from the message that needs to be delivered. I thought this was really interesting, because Even the hierarchy is correctly done. The main name is in all caps, then the header is a little smaller, with regular cap usage, and the sub header being even smaller, yet still easily readable. Perfect for a packaging product, especially when it is based off of recycled materials, which entail keeping everything on the planet simple in order to preserve it.

This was a coaster at a bar that I found visually interesting, so I decided to add it into my journal; I think it‘s Typography overall works well with the logo, however I wonder if the ‘Chesterfield, VA’ at the bottom could be the same size as the ‘BEER WORKS’ in the center. In the sene of hierarchy, I understand, but when it comes to eligibility, I had a hard time seeing it. Perhaps boldening the letters could’ve even enhance the visual aspect for the word, being it is the location of which the place was.

This is a marketing piece that came with the notebook itself; this is interesting because there are three different fonts happening, and two different colors, and only 2 different sizes. The funny thing is that ‘NEVER LOSE’ is capitalized and meant to stand out, but then you read the line below it, and ‘your ideas’ is all lowercase letters, in scripted font, and in an orange color that almost bleeds in with the paper’s color. I think if they didn’t add a picture of the notebook, along with the pop of yellow in the pencil, Then this would be 100% hopeless. It still is 90% hopeless however lol, because also, I couldn’t even read the passage below the title. It’s too skinny, and even if it were scripted it would be even worse. I also thought it was odd that they had the name of their brand just all the way at the bottom, being the same size as the initial title. I don’t know.. A lot is off about it to me.

This was an envelope that came with a hello fresh food delivery; I think that, since it’s the front of the envelope, a separation of positive and negative space was smart, and the simple design to show a healthy food lets viewers narrow down their ideas as to what the message is intending. The ‘Hello’ being in scripted writing is actually a nice touch, because it makes the eyes of the viewer feel welcomed, (I’m not sure why, but it just does lol). Then, changing it right after the comma to a capitalized message that represents two important subjects that coincide not only with one another but within the brand’s role - ‘DELICIOUS’ and ‘DEALS’ - is actually a very smart way to compose the overall design.

This is a tag that was on a shirt my mom bought; I thought the Overall design was very elegant, and very proper; it almost felt to me as if I were reading a card from a wedding or something. With that being said, I wonder if the Grayish writing at the top could be darkened, as well as changed to a more typewriter font style; then it could maybe give a little more interest into the elegance behind the design itself, which would be the clothing.

These are my grandma’s medical gummies that she takes; I chose this because I thought the typography for the ‘Sugar High’ worked well with the product’s theme. After reading the title, my mind then asked, well I know the brand name, but what kind are these and what flavor? That is when I looked down and saw the ‘mimosa’ and ‘THC gummies’ in very thin lettering, with the tracking expanded for both of them. It would make even more sense if the most important message regarding safety were to be just as big and in-sight as the other two: “Maximum Strength” has no tracking effected within its letter spacing, and it’s size is even smaller than the subtexts.

This is a tag from a pair of jeans; I think that if the tag itself were a different kind of material, the typography would have to change too. I say this because the company even branded the base of the logo. What is interesting to me is that the font that actually says ‘Articles of Society’ seems a little cramped, or stuffy. I then read the ‘LOS ANGELES’ underneath, and thought to myself “Why didn’t they switch the capitalization and have the main title/brand in uppercase letters?” And then I thought about it and realized, that would actually hinder the composition, BECAUSE they decided to brand that capital A in the background. I wonder if they are able to change that around, or if the designer messed up and couldn’t go back

This is a cork from a great wine company; When I first picked it up, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to read the brand’s name easily, or even be able to see what was on the cork at all, because a lot of brands sometimes create thick, large, blocky designs that are not meant to go on spherical objects, especially ones as small as wine corks. However, I was pleasantly surprised when it was really easy to read both the head title and subtitle. The two separate fonts initiate two different jobs for the viewer’s eyes, yet the lines wrangling in the bottom words almost help you maintain stability while reading.

This is another marketing insert that came with my Mr. Pen pens; I wanted to include this because I felt conflicted on the success rate of its composition. Why are the blue and red and black words all slanted? I couldn’t even read them fully unless I brought the card closer to my face. The bubbly, felt-looking pen strokes give off a good marketing idea for showing how the pens work, but I wonder if that is what their goal was; If so, I can maybe understand it, but I feel like there’s just a lot of random things arranged inappropriately.

This is actually the back of the hello fresh envelope, and I wanted to include this too because of the different elements each side contained. This side has more design added to it, which give the viewer more things to look at. I was almost overwhelmed while looking at it for too long, because of the repetitive patterns across the screen; I think it works well don’t get me wrong, but maybe if the lemon beside the ‘HelloFresh’ logo were to be removed, then it would leave more room for our eyes to adjust accordingly.
