She is a positive teacher who inspires her students to look at live from a different perspective. Cruwell uses real-life experiences to engage her students to actively learn, she engages in projects that are relevant to them and their lives. An example is, the line game she play's with them, she asks questions that is based and relevant to teenagers and especially the teenagers in this class. Cruwell follows a student-centered learning approach, the learners bring their own knowledge, education and past experiences, into the classroom and this impacts how they learn and interact in the classroom. The outcomes which is expected of her teaching , is a safe environment for her learners where they can potentially graduate and not fall into the gang violence. She imparts the value of respect to her learners. She has a student-teacher relationships outside school with her students. She takes them out to dinner, and gives them rides home after school, this implies that she goes the extra mile. She has also gain the necessary respect of her learners, as one of them called her 'mama', which is a sign of respect towards her.

The learners in Keating's classroom acquires their knowledge through a process of active construction, Keating cultivates the knowledge that the learners already posses. Keating is a facilitator in his classroom, he uses scaffolding methods in order for the students to make their own conclusions about literature. An example of his methods is when her asked the students to tear out the entire first chapter in their text books, which explained poetry, he rather let's the students make their own conclusions. Keating had a close relationship with his students, he was a good listener, he offered advice and support for his learners. Keating wants the learners to form their own opinion rather than listening to older figures in their lives. He serves as a role model for the learners. He uses the constructivism theory.

The learner's findings and emotions are considered in the classroom. Cruwell's classroom allows learners to show emotion and bring their own findings to the classroom. The learning environment is relaxed and comfortable.

Communicative Approach  
Language is used for real-world purposes. The learners are expected to write about their own real-world experiences in their diaries. The materials Cruwell uses in her classroom are authentic. She hands out reading books to the learners, where they never had new reading books before.

The Direct method and The Natural Approach
Visual Aids and pantomime are used for teaching. Ms. Cruwel lets her learners dance in the classroom. The learners may speak when they feel ready to do so. The teacher did not force them to allow her to read their diaries, it was only when they were ready to share their feelings and writing.

Eclecticism
Eclecticism is characterised by various approaches that are combined. The teachers does not only use one method and approach.

 Teacher talks dominate the lesson, when Mr. Keating speaks the learners listen to what he has to say and what knowledge he has. The learners may speak when they feel ready to do so, for example, Todd Anderson is a shy boy at first and does not want to read in front of people, Keating keeps encouraging him until he formulates his own poem in the classroom.

Communicative Approach
 Keating uses language and literature for real-world proposes, rather than correcting their use of language. He uses group work and communication in his lessons, for example when the boys are working outside, they first copied each other's walking routine but afterward, Keating teaches them that they are unique and each has their own unique walking style.

Community language learning
The learner's feelings and emotions are considered in the classroom, the learning environment is relaxed and comfortable, an example is when Keating tells the learners to stand on his desk to see things from a different perspective, they are also expected to kick a soccer ball while reading a piece of poetry out loud. This is a relaxed environment and the focus is more on speaking, understanding, and communicating effectively.

The Commutative approach, which is also an approach of both teachers is relevant in the South African context. This approach is embedded within the constructivism theory. The communicative approach entails group work and communication, because of our schools' diversity it is important to learn from one another and see things out from a different perspective than your own, values, beliefs, and opinions.
