Inertia: Newton’s First Law

Newton's first law of motion, also known as the law of inertia, states that an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will continue to move at a constant velocity (speed and direction) unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. This means that objects have a tendency to resist changes in their state of motion.

Force, Mass, and Acceleration: Newton's Second Law

Newton's Second Law of Motion states that the force applied to an object affects its acceleration. The amount of force needed to accelerate an object depends on its mass. For example, it is easier to accelerate a bicycle than a car because the bicycle has less mass. The video also provides examples of how mass affects acceleration, such as pushing a shopping cart. An empty shopping cart accelerates faster than a full one because it has less mass.

Newton's Third Law of Motion, also known as the Law of Action and Reaction, states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that when one object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first object.

Behavior tends to follow the status quo unless it is acted upon by a decrease in friction or increase in fuel.

-This means that people are more likely to stick with their current behavior unless something motivates them to change. Friction refers to the obstacles that make it difficult to change behavior, while fuel refers to the incentives that motivate change.

Behavior (B) is a function of the person (P) and their environment (E), or B=f(P,E).

-This law states that our behavior is determined by a combination of our own internal factors (such as personality, values, and beliefs) and the external environment (such as social norms, culture, and physical surroundings).

For every decision made, there are tradeoffs and the potential for unintended consequences.

-This law emphasizes that there is no such thing as a perfect decision.
