This is impossible as Newton died in 1727, twenty-two years before the bridge was built.

The clock's face is a 24-carat gold-plated stainless steel disc. It has no hands or numbers, but displays the time by opening individual slits in the clock face backlit with blue LEDs; these slits are arranged in three consecutive rings displaying hours, minutes and seconds.

The sculpture is called iChronophage (which means 'time eater'). It moves its mouth, appearing to 'eat up' the seconds as they pass, and occasionally it 'blinks' in satisfaction.

The clock only shows the correct time every 5 minutes. Exploring Albert Einstein's theory of relative time, they slow down, speed up and occasionally stop.
