When their writing is or becomes controversial, I think it kind of benefits them because people will want to buy their book and see if everything they've heard about is true. A controversial book could probably rake in the same amount of profit as a really good book. But, if it really is offensive to many people, the author will not have any other successful books because people don't like what they're saying in their writing and don't want to support them. I think that something is controversial when it causes fights between people because they have differing opinions of whatever the subject is. To me, it really depends on the context as to whether something should be banned or not. If the author had written their book to spread awareness about a controversial topic, I don't think it would be appropriate to ban the book because everyone is allowed to share their opinion. Being sad or mad at a person for their opinion is part of life and should not be banned just because a certain group or people disagree. Having someone say what they think about a certain subject or anything shouldn't be the worst thing in the world. People normally write their thoughts in a book because they are too afraid to say with their voice.
