Squash and Stretch = Makes objects more fluid in it's movement. Example of this technique is Pingu.

2. Appeal = making it appealing for the audience.

3. Slow in and slow out or ease in and ease out = the technique of were you start slowly and end slowly in a sequence of movement.

4. Timing = heavy objects move slower and skinny objects move faster. Emotions also effect the timing of the characters movements as well. Always treat timing as a song - it must have a rhythm to it to have a fluid movement.

5. Exaggeration = emotions, movements and actions.

6. Antcipation = what's coming next?

7. Staging = IMPORTANT !!! Framing, light an shadow, angle and postion, keeping it focused and it is relevant? DON'T DO UNESSASERY DETAIL !!!

8. Secondary Action = Adding interest and humour into a characters actions / movements.

9. Arcs = fine art of drawing and animation. They need to flow in a smooth movement.

10. Follow through and Overlapping = follow through is separate parts of the body when it stops. Overlapping means parts moving at a different rate.

11. Three Dimensional = fine art of drawing as well.

12. Claymation = Stop motion - uses malleable materials. It is used in 1908 by Edistien. Characters have oversized features, such as hands and feet. Timing can be slow and mysterious in some films. Lip synch can be achieved by referencing the speech on how people speak normally. More realistic feel in this type of animation. The budget and time can be a problem. This is a traditional method of animation. It's creative and aseptically pleasing. The main issue with this type of animation is that it is time consuming. One company that use this type of animation is Aardman (Wallace and Grommet); they aim at the child range of target audience. Art Clokey was the fist pioneer of Claymation.

2. Puppets = This is a similar style as Claymation but they use puppets. They move everything per frame. They are longitudinal people - have to change the parts to make them realistic. Almost used or 100 years. This doesn't take a lot of people to do it. George Pal was the first pioneer to use this technique. All of he's puppet where made from calved wood. Tim Burton has carried on this techniques for his films, such as Corpse Bride.

3. Stop Motion Puppetry = Ray Harryhausen made the Dymation technique. King Kong was made from a small puppet, but they made an optical illusion to make the puppet bigger than it was. The principles that they use are timing, staging / framing, arcs, exaggeration and appeal.

4. Silhouette = Lottie Reiniger began this technique. This is a technique which you make all of the characters by paper, but it is performed as a shadow art. The appeal is that it is modern art of animation, it is used widely around Europe. Her most famous characters are flying horses, demons and transforming characters. She cuts out shapes from white and black paper - uses wire to help stabilise the characters positions. The main principle that she uses is appeal as it mainly focuses on children, she has made children's story's as her work, such as Cinderella and Hansel and Gretel. She made a light-box to help her do her stories / performances. The most current example of this in a film is in Harry Potter and the deathly Hallows Part 1 - where Hermione Granger tells the stories of the three brothers, the only difference was; was that the silhouettes where computer animated.

5. Cut-out animation = Daniel Greaves is well known for this type of animation technique. he is most famous for the film flat worlds. Terry Gilliam - part of the Monty Python crew - showed on how to do this technique but it was aimed to adults as it had a lot of adult humour. The problem with this technique is that it is very unrealistic. The most famous children cut out series is Charlie and Lola, and also South Park.

6. Pixilation = Norman McLaren introduced this type of animation in the early 1900s. he made short films such as Neighbours and Boogie Doodle. A principle that he used was exaggeration. Neighbours is one of the most famous pixilation movies he ever made, as it used real people which made it more realistic - which and its easier to create and it was easier to tell the actors on what to do. The only issues with this technique is that people cant stand still for a very long time.

7. Hand drawn = Uube Errt Iwerks made the first drawing of Mickey Mouse, along side Walt Disney. Uube also made Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1971. John Barnes Linnett made the first flip book in 1868. Emilie Cohl made the first fully animated film -  which consists of more than 200 hand drawn picture for the full two minutes of film. One example of this flipbook film technique is the first coloured Disney film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The problem with this technique is that you can easily make mistakes, meaning you will have to draw a lot of the images again is you make the same mistake over and over again.

8. Calk-board = This technique has been around since the Caveman times / period. Emilie Cohl used this technique as well. She uses this technique to make the first animated film. No one is ever too young or too old to use this type of animation technique. He's film that he made with this technique consisted of 700 glass-pain drawings, which where all drawn by hand. This is a creative technique and imaginative. The main issues is that it is very hard to not make mistakes, it can be expensive with all of the material you need to by and also it is very time consuming.
