This is a youtube video about empathy surrounding ELL students. Students who may primarily speak another language need to feel supported in the classroom so they know that they can feel heard. Being in a classroom with kids who speak a different language than you can become hard for these students. This was a good video to watch and see how to support those kiddos.

Be honest and direct with them telling them facts and keeping it positive. Avoid making assumptions or interpretations. Lead by example. Show them how we treat people who may have disabilities or who may look a little different then us. They are still a person just like they are. Help them try and find shared interests so maybe they can connect to them in a familiar way.
